what do you guys think of this?
Within the next couple months im going to have about $20,000 to spend on a car. Im considering a 240sx w/ a sr swap. This is what im thinking about doing:
-Car: either 91-94 or 97-98, not sure yet. Most i want to spend on the car is about $6000
-Engine: Heavy Throttles "Stage 1 Engine Swap Package" which includes:
"EZ Install Kit, Greddy 3" downpipe, Act 6 puck Clutch Kit, Greddy R SPL FMIC, Greddy Type S BOV with Hot Pipe, Walbro 255 lph Fuel pump, SVR slim battery for FMIC install, KOYO Aluminum Radiator, Permacool 14" Fan with adjustable thermostat, Autometer Dual Gauge pillar pod, Autometer Phantom Boost and Oil Pressure Gauges, Greddy Profec B Electronic Boost Controller, Greddy Turbo Timer, NGK Spark Plugs, fuel filter. Stage 1 Turbo Kit - Includes Forced Performance Big28 Turbo, 550cc injectors, Z32 MAFS, intake and install kit, JWT ECU tune, HKS Wastegate Actuator, all gaskets required. S13 Black-top add $350 For S14 engine add $1100 Will produce approx 320 RWHP @ 20 psi on pump gas. Plus shipping." I will opt for the S14 engine
Price $8,900+ shipping
-Im assuming i'll have to buy a LSD so im figureing about $1000 for that
My estimate is about $18,000 including install charges. (dont have tools requried to do a engine swap)
do you guys think this is good? is there anything else i would need? are there any issues with putting a S14 into a S13 chassis? and i remember reading that the A/C doesnt work with the swap, is this true? thanks.

Personally, I would go a totally different route. I would get a 91-93 240 H/B(1k-2k). Almost all the same parts as you want to upgrade on that S14 SR. That should cost about...6k-7k. Coilovers, wheels and tires, LSD...and more.

with that budget you could really build a beast and drop a RB in, if you are buying new parts it would take some money, but like the VLSD units only run about $250-$300.

The RB20 isnt a ***** to swap in, but it does take a little more work then the SR does. The aftermarket isnt as big as the sr...but you can still find parts. RBs are really reliable(for the most part, but used engines are always a toss in the air). If the wiring is done right, A/C SHOULD work

well, im not going to be buying anything very soon. Im still weighing my options. Im also thinking about a SRT-4, 04 WRX, Trans Am WS6, and a Mustang Mach 1. I really want somethin RWD and a turbo would be fun to play with too. The only thing that i dont like about a 240 is that its not new, and there is no warranty if i get one.

04 WRX is a FWD based AWD system and sucks. The trannys are bad (with the exception of the 04 STi 6 speed). Mustang and Trans Am suck for handling.
Out of the bunch the SRT-4 sounds the best. Factory sold mods that will get the car big HP numbers. And its still under warnatee. But its FWD so there goes that one.
Get a 240 you wont regret it.
