i have a question....how is it figured that a quik release hub is ricey??? and also for that fact.....how is it not a security feature?? i know if i can pop my steering wheel off and go to bed at night....im gna be able to sleep a tad better. Not all thieves are clever enuff to carry around extra steering wheels........i dunno, jus got lost when i saw it was bein referred to as ricey and the security issue also.

I (the OP) called it ricey just due to the fact that for me it is not a required part, just some bauble that I want that has no real purpose for me other than looking cool. I can see the actual need for one in say a race car or in an area of high auto theft, but for me those arent reasons.

As for it not being a security tool, I think it is but it falls under the same securtiy group as the claw. Its something that makes the car more difficult to steal than its worth, but should not be the only theft prevention tool. Some might argue that the brigh red security cap you install in place of the wheel could actually attract negative attention.

ah.....i see big man. Yea i will agree with you on the high area theft thing.....my area isnt considered high theft but its pretty bad. Aspecially for kids with their civics with fart pipes and racing seats and what not. Ive always got people walking past my coupe and i always notice them glancing inside it as they walk by. Shyt like that bothers me....thats why im prolly gonna be investing in a quik release.

so very true. i went to school with some guys that were car thieves or had an older brother or cousin who was a car thieve. so i can say that getting noticed is the first step in getting your stolen.

also there are different kinds of thieves. some are just out to make some quick cash by stealing whatever they can find. they are the ones that you don't have to worry about stealing your car. they usually circle the block once and take what they can on the first pass. car thieves on the other hand will gather all the needed information before they try anything.

come show time they will know what tools are going to be needed, what time to make their move and how long it will take. these guys will take your car if they want it bad enough. at this point all you can do is hope to be able to slow them down enough with whatever gadgets you've installed and maybe catch them in the act. if you do they are less likely to try again. that's not to say that someone else wont try though.

like i said i knew of some guys involved in car theft so my advice is to make it harder for the thieves but you should also know that you can't stop them if they are determinant.

I see a quick release as being ricey in that no street car has a NEED for it so the effect is PURELY aesthetic. Security my ***! You want it because you'll feel Ub3r jDEEym in your tyt3 ryd3. Then show off how you can remove the wheel when you go to import meets on Friday and Saturday nights.

The only NEED for one is when you have a bucket or fixed seat in a car with a roll cage. Then I can see the "need" for it. I've been in cars where egress is IMPOSSIBLE without a removable wheel. If you're driving a car like THAT on the street, you're probably just doing it to say you are anyway.

Cliffs Notes for this page:

Quick releases are rice in street cars.

A removable wheel is not a major security tool.

You car can get stolen if someone wants it bad enough.
