Steering wheel spline

Steering wheel spline

I had bought a roller s13 and it had no wheel on it and not thinking unloading it i used vice grips to steer the car and the spline is all chewed up so now what can i do?

that was a very bad idea...... you have to install a new steering column.

your supposed to put a rag over it and not use too much pressure.....

can i not just replace just the spline section insted of the whole column

Of all of the items I have replaced/broken on my car, a steerign wheel spline is not something that I and or others have messed up.

It is not a hard task, you will however have to remove all of the wiring and your locking mechanisim. since it is a shell, you can easily get into the engine bay and disconnect the shaft and pull it through.

once again i have never done it, best bet for you would be to consult the FSM in the steering section and look for an exploaded example of the system. I can almost bet that you will have to go to the junkyard to remove the column.
