240 purchase?

Hi, new here, i just want some profetional opinion and advice for buying a 240sx.

Specs:

Nissan 240sx(Obviously)
1989 year, 115k miles on it, and they want $1800 for it from a dealer, it is as is, no warranty or anything. I dont know what kinda motor it has just yet, cuz i didnt get a chanse to look inside yet. But the car looks stock to the bone, so im guessing that the motor is from the factory.

Is 115k miles to much? and is $1800 to much or a good deal for it?

Any advice or suggestions on what i should be aware of or looking for when i buy this car is welcome and apretiated. Thanx.

As long as the body is in good condition and the Clutch isn't worn out or anything major thats a terrific price.

Edit: Although you might as well save up and buy a 1991-93 240sx. It will have the same body style, cost maybe a little bit more, but you'll get the KA24DE engine which is a much better engine to run unless your planning to do major modifications like an engine swap in the future. In which case the engine that comes with the car won't matter.

Oh and the 1989 240sx came with a KA24E engine. That means it's a 2.4 Liter Single Overhead Cam engine.

Is the stock 2.4 Liter Single Overhead Cam engine good for modifications? Or do i have to have the KA24DE to perform modifications on it?

I dont plan to do anything realy extreme with the car, just some mods to the engine like exaust, cams, and stuff. Body work and stuff. I dont want to turbo charge it, i plan to keep it as natural as possible with out turbo add ons.

By the way, how much does a swap for a KA24DE cost any way?

I really dont think I could offer you a profetional opinion, and if I did I wouldnt know it.

Just f@$ckin with ya, had to do it. Just make sure that its a good straight body. Try to get one that has not been wrecked and has as little rust as possiable. To look to see if its been in a bad wreck you want to check all the body lines to make sure they all line up. Or you can just bye Project Cheap 13's for $400-500. But considering the fact that its getting harder to come by a good 240 these days I would say that price isnt bad for one with those miles on it. Good luck whatever you do.

i got my 240 for $1300. It's a 1989 hatchback, SOHC, 214K milage @ the time (now it's @ 218K), with no rust on the frame that i can see.
Milage doesn't matter, just as long as the condition is still ok. Getiing $1800 from a dealer is an ok price, but i think it could be knocked down a lil bit more. O yea, and most of the good mods come out of the KA24DE engine. U can get the NISMO clutch kit for the KA24DE . bastards didn't make one for the SOHC . well, ateast none that i haven't seen . Can u test drive it? imma guess a no on that. o well. GL

ps: rust =

I'm about an hour south of tampa.
It's a 1990 SOHC Auto, base SE model. No rear wiper, no power windows, locks, ect..
Interior is now pretty clean.
I just put a "newer" steering rack, tie rods, belts, plugs wire, cap & rotor, Put on new calipers, rotors & pads on the front. I have rotors & pads for the rear, but havent put them on yet. New DS engine mount.
All emissions are gone( except the convertor. Still has stock exhaust). Coolant lines to the Intake & TB are bypassed. New fuel pump, & some other crap I cant think of.
Comes with & YOU MUST TAKE an auto tranny & SOHC engine. The engine has a rod knock( IIRC it is the #3 cyl).
Some of the bad. The hatch NEEDS to be replaced. Unless you know a really good body man.
Actually you will need to know one anyway. As the DS rear fender is pretty beat up, as is the whole car in general. The is slight rust all ove rth ecar, but nothing rotten. The frame underneath is a little banged up, but nothing I am concerned with.
It has a 1992 front end on it. I have both the lip from the 90 & the 92. but the 90 lip is beat up.
I bought it for $300 & put about $2k worth into it now. So i'm loosing my ***. But I dont have time for it right now. I'm too busy with other things & the car is getting neglicted.
It has a 3-5 sec lifter tap when it sits fo rlong periods of time.
It runs great, & the AC is COLD. But dont stop too good right now.
Other than that. I dont know what else to tell ya, except that it is a $400-500 car. Dont expect much.

Sounds like id have to do alot of fabrication with the body and work on the motor with what you told me. But just like you i dont have time to rebuild the car or the money. Im just looking for a daily driver/drifter so that i can put some mods on with out spending to much time and money on it. And since you live in florida its gona be to much hassle for me to get the car from you back here to Philadelphia Pa where i live.

Thanx for the info any way sc13.
