300ZX or 240SX
T Tops FTMFW!!! I know t tops are NOT a good thing if this is gonna be an all out racing machine, but the only Z32 to come without t tops was the N/A. If youre gonna go with the Z32, get a slicktop and swap in a VG30DETT. T tops are the thing I miss most about my Z.
Ok, here's the update. I was about to buy a 300ZX when my buddy called me from japan(he moved there a couple of years ago) and told me he wrecked his skyline. My first thought was that sucks since it was such a nice car but the next thing out of his mouth was "So you wanna buy my RB26 cause I don't need it anymore?" (He's getting the new BMW M coupe) I, of course, said yes and went to the bank and got a cashiers check sent to him for it. Cost me 1000 bucks.
Then I got a call from this guy I had been talking to about his 98 240 that needed an engine and tranny and he said he'd sell it for 800 bucks.
Needless to say, I now am the proud owner of a 98 Z14 240SX and a RB26DETT motor.
Now all I have to do is purchase a RB25 tranny and then when I blow that one up I'm gonna have to figure something out. I'm not too sure what those trannys are good up to but I know 800whp and all that torque will do it in. I'm gonna also need to purchase a driveshaft.
My plans as of right now are to get a solid rear axle, order some motor mounts, then install the motor, tranny and driveshaft once I get them all.
As of right now I've spent 1800 bucks, not too shabby so far.
Oh, does anyone know where I can get some shift linkage for LH drive that'll go to the RB25 tranny? I'm a complete tard when it come to anything having to do with trannys, I'm all about engines.

Simple warning (yes I know this thread is a couple months old) RB26 swap is not a simple job. Yes wire harness and all that crap blah blah blah.
Not here to slander you, just want to help clarify that this swap is very tedious as we've done two of them one S13 one S14. You'll need the 25 tranny as you are very well aware of, custom shaft and custom mounts as no one makes a good one still. After all that, you'll need something on par with the Apexi Power FC w/ FC Commander. You wont be needing the 26 ECU, so save a few bucks on shipping the extra weight if it hasnt been shipped out yet. Aside from that, pick up an LSD, maybe some cromoly axels and your set to go. I would consider a great amount of chassis reenforcement with that much HP going through the car. 6-800 HP going through any 240 is waiting to have the chassis get tweaked with just one simple tap of the throttle.
Kudos for getting your hands on an RB26 for that cheap tho! I am still debating on 2J or LS6 swap. Any LS swap will be way more costly over 2J, but who knows. Anything can happen at this point.
