4 x 6 Subs inside speakers?

http://www.uscaraudio.com/cgi-bin/us...gno=REF6412CFP

Is it a bad idea to put those in the back of my 240? My speakers are dying and I just saw those. Any input?

I think it would sound super clean with an electronic cross over and 200watt RMS AMPLIFIER. You may need to modify a little bit with a dremel/roto zip to get it to fit the way you want it

iirc those are the same speakers best buy has on display with a rockford fosgate amp and they sound great. but you can't or shouldn't use an electronic crossover because it already comes with a passive one.

that is to say that an electric crossover on parallel wired speakers such as these would render the sub or tweeter useless depending on the setting. unless of course you ran a separate connection to each one.

But on electronic cross overs you can still use a full range of LOW,MID and HI, simultaneously you can select numerous frequency responses that you would like to use, which in any case is much more efficient than just using a passive. Cheap electronic crossovers that come built into the amplifiers are normally cheesy and usually don't allow you to use the full range frequency, as the selection would only be limited to low pass, mid pass, or hi pass.

As an example this one sold through kicker for $150 allows you to use a full range frequency spectrum.

Kicker has nice amps with decent enough crossovers--that one you posted above looks very tunable. Eclipse makes a realllly mean amp.

As far as your 4 x 6's, I don't know exactly how much you could really push out of them in terms of low-range to mid-range, but adding an amp to any system will make it sound better even by a little.

In response to your original question, infinity makes very good speakers. I had 6 and 1/2's all around in my S14, and it sounded awesome!! If you're getting a bigger system later, it's still the way to go, I think. Very good quality for your money!!

I have Infiniti Reference speakers in my car. They are the best sounding speakers I have ever owned (which really isn't saying much, but still)

yes, i was merely pointing out that with an electronic x-over you'd need to use 2 out puts. one for the sub and one for the tweeter, not one for both since the x-over is filtering out the the lows mids or highs depending on the setting.

but any who those speakers will sound poor, good, or great depending on the head unit, pre-amp (if desired), x-over and amp. i've had set ups with cheap jdl (not jbl ) 6x9's and bumper 12" subs that sounded better than my friends jl audio because of the extra components.
