air intake?

i was thinkin about putting an intake in my s13, but my friend mentioned something about how its bad to have on here in nj. He was saying that it would suck up water and my engine would hydro lock (when water gets into the engine). any truth to this?

aem makes bypass valves that you weld onto your intake to stop water from getting in.
