Another "Should I buy it" thread.

I'm currently looking at a '92 240 with 220,000 miles for $1,300. The ad says that it needs a new clutch and something is wrong with the shifter linkage. It's got a K&N intake and a Magnaflow exhaust. I'd like to know if it'll be worth the 170 mile trek there and back to get it at that price.

Oh, and it has a rough idle issue.

Thanks!

Here is a pic
Did 240's come with this yellow ever, or has this car been resprayed?

It will be a commuter car, primarily. Later on I will probably build the engine up N/A just for the kicks.

That paint is not stock, pretty nice. With that many miles...dont know if it will last you that much longer. rebuilt engine?

The ad didn't specify, so it must be the orignial engine. My biggest apprehension though is the transmission. The ad says that because of "total clutch failure" there was some other problem with the transmission, "most likely shifter linkage".
It said that a Nissan dealership offered $900 for the car as it was. Why do I have the feeling that the clutch grenaded and wreaked all sorts of havoc?

Anyway, there are a few other 240s available in the same area, so I'll be checking out 2 or 3 on the same day hopefully. Maybe then it won't be a complete waste of time.

I'd probably stay away from it. That is a lot of miles. Id see if I could get it for like 800. U can probably find a better one for 1300

as nice as it looks, i think thats a risky transaction, too many miles, and with that clutch problem, could die on yea on the way back

Haha, u find that car on auto trader right? I saw that one too! It looks pretty nice but I am sure the problem that the owner metion is not that simple! I think it will need lots of $$$$ to make it good transportation! Well, $900 trade to dealership, that is unbelieveable, more likely, no nissan dealer will buy it for $900! maybe the paint job worth about that much! however, u know that once that yellow paint spray on that car, is not worth the price that you spend to paint it anymore! Also, if u want to check out that car, look under the black mesk, maybe a crack something under it! Good Luck!

it's probably not worth it. like soulfly99 said, you could probably find a better one for the same price. the body looks perfect, but it'll take lots of money to make it a better car. (notice i said "better" and not "good"! nissan power, baby!)

Don't get it. I just bought my 92 5 speed for 1650. It was a one owner, new clutch and 103,000 on the odo. You'll find better.

The Pic looks nice, but if you are willing to spend a bit more money on a nicer car with less mileage you might be more satisfied. If it is in good condition for a 220,000 mile 92' then it might be worth the price. Find out more about the car, like history and rebuilt parts. The only colors a 92' came in were: Aztec Red, Cherry Red Pearl, Juniper Green Metallic, Charcoal Metallic, Sndstone Beige Metallic, Super Black, Misty Blue Metallic, and Super White. Hope this Helps - www.freewebs.com/es240sx
