Question Banging Noise In Rear End!

I have a 95 240sx and it makes a banging noise in the rear end. It does it when i dont shift smoothly, when i floor it from a low speed and idle, and when i brake quickly and then release the brakes. The guy that sold me the car told me that i needed to replace the bushings on the differential. Does anyone know about this problem and if it is the bushings where r they located. If its not the bushings, what else can it be? Your help will be apreciated.

I bet you have an aftermarket exhaust, and MAYBE even a aftermarket sway bar in the back.

Right????

That sound is your exhaust thumping on your rear sway bar or diff. I have the same annoying thing.

Check for driveshaft play. It's either your ring & pinion or your tranny out put shaft.
OR worn u-joints.

I can make mine "BANG" in neutral. I think this guy is experiencing the same thing, but not sure.

I can coast in neutral, hit the brakes hard, and let of real quick and it will make the thumping noise.

That means it shouldn't be anything drivetrain related. right?

subframe movement maybe due to dead bushings?

mine was the same way. ii replaced the bushings and thats all it took. i replaced the subframe bushings not just put in subframe collars. so i dont know but the collars might do the trick.

Yea this sounds most definitely like worn subframe or differential support bushings or maybe even both.

As far as install difficulty, it should be doable with jack stands and of course the proper tools.

subframe bushings should go right in (be careful to properly support the subframe when you unbolt it) but if you have to mess with any suspension bushings, you'll need a hydraulic press, or some drifts and a huge hammer.

If it were the subframe/diff bushings would it not do it all the time. Not just during accel or deceleration. Like going over bumps, hitting pot holes, ect..

That has been my experience atleast.
