Banging Noise In Rear End!

Is there anyway someone can give a quick step-by step on how to do this, and where to get the bushings, and what type they recomend?
Is poly good, or will they just end up squeeking like every other poly bushing i've ever owned???
I would greatly appritiate a quick write-up as i have no clue how to do this, but would like to.
thanks!

jack the car up. take out the subframe, wheels come off first. its a handfull of bolts to take it all down. dont forget to remove the driveshaft from the diff. once its all out then remove the bushings. freeze the new ones, then put them in, it will make it easier to put in if there frozen. you might need to press them in, i had to. if you dont want to mess with all that then buy subframe collars with the cutouts and just jack up the car and loosen the bolts, slide em in then tighten back up. its really easy to do.

I have the same problem. I own a 1996 240SX with an auto tranny. I just recently purchased it and still need to do tons of repairs (including all new struts)
When i suddenly let off of the gas while driving, it makes a loud clunking noise. Kinda like somthing is hitting the back. Its kinda of strange. I am wondering if its the fact that the shock have absolutly no gas left in them at all.??
A co-worker of mine told me that its pretty standard in that year car due to the torque being applied. I am hoping that once i replace the struts that this will stop.

here is a way you can tell if its your subframe bushings. dont worry about symptoms. put your car on level pavement. pull up the parking brake. take the back wheel and try to turn it back and forth as if you were trying to get the car moving. as it shift slightly front to back (while parking brake is on) look under your car or have someone look under your car. if they or you see the whole subframe assembly rotating more than like a half inch or so its the bushings.

Thanks bottom bunk. Thats what im looking for!
LAst question. Do you guys think those subframe collars are the "right" way to repair this problem, or are they just a half assed way out?
I prefer easy, but right is more important.
thanks!

thats what i did i replaced them and added collars. i was also saying if he didnt want to go through all the work he could just try collars. its definitely not the preferred step to take. i see those collars as more of a band-aid fix. if you can change the bushings.
