Unhappy chassis fixable???

well my friend set a jack stand under the car today to fix up my 240 soo i could fix it. itz a 1990 240sx and then we placed tha jack stand where we usually put it. but this time when we were lowering one side of the car, the other side of the chassis collapsed due to rust on that beam on the chassis, it fully went in! im not sure if this if possible to fix, like could i pull it out and re-weld it or sumthing? =\\\

i just bought my car for 300 too! =\\

if your frame collapsed ... iwouldn't really trust a weld to fix it lol...

Think, your going down the highway at 120 ... you hit a dip, frame snaps.....

no good .. lol

Good luck, hopefully its not as bad as I made it out to be.

well do you guys think that if i weld it and den reinforce it with like more sheet metal on top of it will make it safe? and also make it pass safety test? cause i still havent done safety or anything yet

First, if it's rusted....you need to cut far up and downside of the rusted area...because rust is a chemical reaction. What you see is the final result. There is still that reaction going on where u can't see it. So cut out a good sized portion of the frame rail, rectangular preferably. Next get some of the same material (I don't know what it is steel?) w/e it is. Weld that onto the hole you just made, WELD IT GOOD AND STRONG. As good as you can and as strong as you can. If you want extra reinforcement you can foam fill that section and/or weld another piece of metal over the hole-filler piece that is longer and goes past the first welds. Then you should have a strong replacement piece for it. NOTE: probably will never be as strong as stock, but it will work.

PS: I had to do this to my 240 when i got it. Frame looked like swiss cheese. Never got to test how strong it was due to @$$hole pulling out in front of me 2 weeks later and totaling it.

PSS: Not sure if it passes inspection. I think it does, but don't hold me to that. The better you make it look and the better it is actually done the better the chances of *legally* passing inspection. If not, there are always the "not so legal" ways to get it passed.

Just my two cents. But if you have a rusty hole in the frame rail then there can be rust all over the car. I would check the rest of the car to see if it's just that one spot. If it's just that spot then fix it. We have alot of rust in the north east. Good luck

woah... unless you are a very expierenced welder, i'd get that fixed by someone who knows what they're doing. a frame that is rusted enough to crunch through is def not a good thing...

thats a good point! haha well ima not an experienced welder or mechanic either! haha im jus a teenager that takes cars apart and puts em back together for tha fun and experience of it!

it only crunched through cuz my friend lowerd tha hydraulic jack soo fast and tha weight all fell into that one spot and it jus dented in and tah rust cracked through =\ not good.
