Check engine.

I hope this goes here.

I brang my car to get smogged but they said that the check engine light needs to work in order to pass. So they try to change the bulb but it still doesnt work. they said to bring it to the dealer but im kinda low on cash, so i was wondering if theres any other way to try and fix it.

He means that when you turn your car on, the check engine light "SHOULD" be on for 5 secs. or so.

You can try to replace the bulb yourself, if your mech. inclined at all.

HOWEVER. I would HIGHLY recomend taking it to another shop, and just keep your mouth shut. It is SOOOOOO rare that someone(even a smog tech)would notice that. You just got EXTREMELY unlucky.

As long as you think your car will pass the polution part, just take it somewhere else.

Trust me, they won't notice that it's not working. Usually they only notice the light if it is flashing in their face because of a prob.

I live in smognazi socal, so i know what your up against.
