Computer?

Now i'm not going to lie I dont have a 240... YET.. I am in the process of looking for the right one.. Once i find it i am going right to the bank.. lol But I was thinking about putting like a computer in it... With like a 7 inch touch screen.. That will moniter everything that is going on in the engine..

Boost , oil PSI , Water temp/level , battery level You know the deal...

And I am wondering if it is going to be worth it.. I am not a fan of the A-piller.. I wanna go for the cleanst look in the car.. Thats why i was going to go with that and just intagrate it with Stereo and such..

Input would be loved, thank you...

Um someone watches to much fast and the furious.
You have dreams kid, you have dreams....LOL
FLAME ON!!!!
Go to school and learn about engine diagnostics before you claim you want to get something you wouldn't know how to work..

you're looking for a carputer, i've seen it done and it's very nice when you're using a piggyback or standalone engine computer that otherwise requires you to plug in a laptop to make adjustments, also a carputer can run your audio system as well and since your using a hard drive you can have a ton of mp3's on hand to play. Do a google search for carputer and you'll find good parts lists and assemply instructions.

Dude in all honesty research a BikiRom it is a retunable daughter board that is sauderd into place for your OEM ECU. Come with the necessary program that is needed. You can get it for under $300. 240's are under 2000 in cash don't waste your time with expensive equipment that looks nice, Thats all it is. Biki rom is the same functional stuff you want without the expensive CRAP...

LawLz!

if you ask what's a bikiROM and what it does, then you're way beyond your head on this monitor with gauges and sith.

My best thign to recomend you is to spend your money on things ot make your car fast and then Spend some more on some small gauges. then start tuning it with chips, then that BikiROM board maybe. then you'll need that whole engine scaning thing. Because why would you wana measure then engine in a expensive system that will give you all the information that you Stock Instrument panel will give you, and you won't be able to change anything on the engine since It'll be stock.

but its not that hard, just get a BikiROM, and that will let you tune the engine, than buy a CONZULT board interface to comunicate with the engine to the computer, then buy a CARputer, then do all the wiring, then the touch screen, don't forget about the mouse and keyboard, and the powersuply, and the wiring for that, then the power in the engine, you'll need new battery, then the modems to update it, and where R u gona put your Cd drive, and also the video input, and the audio from the PC to the Radio, or maybe you'll need to replace the radio, also you'll need more sensors in the engine, which you'll need to wire. you'll need to memorize everything b/c if you CARputer crashes your engine won't start, and you'll need wireless acces, so get a good cellphone, and some cables for that, and a wireles data plan, and a provider for that data plan, you'll need a control board to turn on and off the PC everytime you put your key in the car, and you'll need a fast procesor($$$) unless you wana wait minutes to start your car, bla bla bla.....

you see? Its not that simple. dude I've been searching and buuying parts so far I got not even half.

so go buy sum performance parts, make it look nice, replace old parts, change ur oil, and leave the F&F stuff to the Movies or the HIN people

I dunno why you guys are flamein this dude so hard. As a computer guy I can say that this is very possible, you better have some skill and some cash but it's very doable. I would love to do this and hopefully will when I figure out how to get rich ;-)
Here's how...
Get a DC to DC power supply. There are company's that make carputer cases with rubberized hard drive enclosures. This will keep your HDD from getting cracked when you snap around a corner. Mount this sucker in the trunk.
Get a 7" touchscreen. You can get these for 200 bucks with usb touchscreen. Run these wires from your trunk mounted carputer to the dash. You can do a wireless KB or just run another USB but you prolly will only need mouse for most stuff. Same wiring path as audio wiring.
Purchase a copy of N probe.
http://www.300degree.com/electronics/nprobe/
This company makes an interface called N probe which I've seen working on my friends Maxima when it was SCed with a laptop mounted in the car.
This thing is the ****... you can monitor everything, air flow, fuel pressure, boost, coolant/oil temp (yes you'll have to add temp sensors), ever hicas monitoring! You can also do all sorts of cool sci-fi stuff like door lock control, auto climate control, air bag system control, etc.
With this setup you can also interface the PC with a pager alarm that has a serial port interface... many of them do. You also won't have to wait for the computer to boot up for car to run... If you want it to boot hella quick then get a RAM drive, buy 2 gigs of cheap memory, load windows onto there and you're up in less then 10 seconds.
Good luck with this man, let me know if you actually go through with it.

Really? damn. I have the software backed up and I think there is info on how to make the inferface cable with a serial cable, some resistors and stuff.

I'm not saying its imposible, I'm just saying as a performance Addition, he's better off puttign thigns like a exhaust and intakes, and cams, etc. You can't *** power with just some snaning computer, and even then, its gona be minimal the increase b/c the engien is stock. He's better getting a lot of performance parts, then a computer to contro lthem. just my 2cents. and The whoel pwoer supply its easy, you can get one of those wall adapters/ converters and wire it to your car with like 20 bucks, no need for special ****. But hey feel free do ya thang.

N-Probe only works for certain model Nissans. Launch diagnostic is what people use for any make or model OBD1 and OBD2 vehicles. I have also mentioned it in numerous threads.
Just buy some cheap gauges, that diagnostic stuff is only needed for smog or when a sensor takes a crap. You bunch of H.I.N kiddies......

lawls... i dont know how you guys went from "can i monitor my car's vitals with a touch screen?" to bikiRom and N-Probe...

I think it would be a pretty neat idea... hell i think itd be a lot cooler to change your analog gauge panel to a completely digital panel, with selectable gauges to monitor your car.

Dude they sell digital gauge systems for about $800 with all the stuff needed for temp, water, A/F ratio, honestly that would be the most I would spend to monitor my engine. I don't think anyone needs to pimp a 240 too much, after all if you hit the track you will get dents and dings everywhere.....
My 5zigen rims are all beat up from gravel flying everywhere, paint is chipping too....
