Ebay for sale links: allow or deny?
Ebay for sale links: allow or deny?
What do you think? A lot of forums I go to (not just car related) are starting to ban any Ebay sale listing threads. IMO I agree for the following reasons:
1) If people look to Ebay for specific things, they will find them if they're for sale. Likewise for the forum. So if you are selling something 240sx related on Ebay, then it will be found by a potential buyer if that's what they're looking for.
2) This forum is supposed to be a community where 240sx owners can buy, sell, or trade within the community - not gather to look at auction listings. We're not buying/selling blind like if you were to put a newspaper ad or an Ebay listing. A lot of us communicate on a daily basis (the purpose of a forum).
3) Some people sell using "make offers" which is fine to me, because it's still person to person negotiation. It's not "put your highest $ up and hope that when the deadline comes that you have the highest offer". That's what Ebay is for, obviously.
4) It's dumb when people put stuf on Ebay at a listed price which is equal to or really close to FAIR MARKET VALUE - it's pointless. If a pair of sideskirts goes for $300 all over the forums, why put it on Ebay for $300? Put it on the forum for $300, save on Ebay fee, get $300 fast. Now I know everyone wants the most they can get for stuff (it's human nature) but at least be realistic. If I had $300 ready for side skirts, and I saw them on the forum I'd buy them. If I saw them on the forum, then had to click a link to go to some Ebay auction that ends in 4 days, I'd probably buy something else.
I dunno there's more but for now that's what I came up with.
How about the rest of you?

I don't see a problem with the ebay links in sections other than the for sale. We see alot of questions about the items up for sale, judgement of quality, price, etc. But I agree as far as the links go in the for sale section.
i dont like ebay at all... some of the people on here have heard about my troubles with buying a gsr motor on egay... i dont think they should be allowed either... as you stated above... what is the point of having to go through ebay when we as a forum/community have the ability to buy and pay for it right this second... i dont mind answering questions or looking at ebay links but i sure would not buy from an ebay post...
if the seller wants to list them here then let them list them... if they want to list on ebay as well they run the risk of the item getting sold befor the auction ends... but i dont like to see for sale items then have to go to ebay to buy it...

I think, if something is posted by a memeber who has been around, and not a one hit wonder, after a certain amount of time not getting any serious offers on the for sale section should be alowed to throw it up on ebay.
I'm not sure if you get the jist of what im saying but it makes sense to me.

"http://www.ebay.com/blah blah blah blah"
and that's usually about it. In other words the whole point of the thread is to direct you to an Ebay auction.
I actually like Ebay for the most part since I have actually had a good experience with it. But it can be bad sometimes i.e. fraud (DUH!) But yeah l2aine I also hate when they just post the link its really dumb. I mean if I wanted to buy a part on ebay than I would run a search. Theres no use in putting the link here if people are still going to see it.
Sometimes, I just want to find a part locally. Deal with the seller personally, pay, and not have to deal with shipping crap. Thats what I did when I sold my rims...went without a hitch. I didnt have to worry about fraud or anything and I didnt have to ship. Simple.
I say go for it. Stop the linking.

Yes, this is mainly about people who pist a "for sale" item, then basically all you get is an Ebay link.
Posting Ebay links (by someone other than the seller) with the intent to ask a question about the item (and not actually to get buyers) is a different story... however, that's iffy unless the poster can be a little specific in theit thread. Bad example:
Title: "What do you guys think?"
Post: What do you think of [ebay link here]?
C'mon at least put some real questions in there.

I vote "nay"... letting them post here is basically free advertising for them while bringing little benefit to us. There's really no point in club240 supporting these business transactions. As previously mentioned, any member looking for specific parts is likely to check ebaymotors anyway.
