failed emissions

failed emissions

hello guys,

i live in maryland and i was due for the emissions testin...i took my car and it failed:/

HC:
inspection reading: .90078GPM(failed by a lil bit)
state standards: .9000GPM

CO:
inpection reading: 11.8237GPM(passed)
state standards: 20.0000GPM

NOx:
inspection reading: 3.0787GPM(failed bad)
state standards: 2.1000GPM


They gave me about 4 moths before my next testin date.
Things i ve changed before testin:

oxygen sensor(2 months old)
plugs and wires(5 months old)
hks(2.5) exhaust
catco hi flow cat---causing high Nox ?
new distributor assy, and cap and rotor
checked timing 20btdc

I havent checked the egr until today and found a crack in one of those thin vaccum lines that conect to it..i ve heard of flushin the egr but how do i take it out?...its way in the back and there is no room, do i just have to take my intake manifold out?...

i ve done my search through the forums and found out that the catco is a 2way catalytic converter and havent really found somebody saying that they passed emissions with it. shuold i go back oem?...tell me what you guys think..i ll appreciate your help, thanks!


i forgot to mention my car is a 95 obd1(ka24de)..basic mods: intake, headers, exhaust, high flow cat

thats funny... I live in MD too, and I failed on unburnt fuel (HC, I think) and had double the acceptable CO, but passed NOx... I think I'm running rich, but don't know why since my car is completely stock!

haha weld in like 3 catalytic converters. maybe that'll keep your numbers down. then rip those *****es out after.

The high nox reading is usually an EGR problem.

so nox is because a faulty egr...do i have to remove the intake manifold to ge to it?....

Dont do that, first make sure the EGR valve is working. It's behind the engine. I agree that it's a faulty EGR though, the EGR's sole purpose is to lower NOx.

yeaup... until MD gets gay like VA and DC and make you raise it...

i didn't really slam my car.. its just lowered for the track with a oem lip.. you just got to be frank with them... and let them know they can try but if you break my bumper or intercooler you will pay... they think about it and say.. pull around the side, you are waved.

i was thinkin about coilovers soon but oh well lol....anyways..how do i remove the egr...all the threads about the egr suggest :"remove it", "get rid of it".."you dont need it" but none of them talk about how to do it...i even saw a thread about gettin rid of emissions stuff with pics but thats with the engine out of the car....just give me an idea and i ll stop botherin you guys lol...thanks
