Installed push button start.

Ignition key switch was going bad in the run position, causing alot of no-starts. So instead of dropping over $100 for a new key switch & waiting for god knows how long for it to get here. I decided to just install a button. The key is still needed to start the car because the relay doesnt get power until the ACC works.

Total cost was about $10. I already had the stuff laying around so I figured its about $10. Total install time was about an hour. Having no AC made it easy. But running wires through existing grommets is no big deal.

I used a 3AMP momentary switch, 4 post relay, 18AWG & 12AWG wire(about 10ft total).
Relay is simple.
Post 30 is BAT(I went from starter). POST 87 to SOLENOID. I used 12AWG for this.
Post for 85 GROUND. POST 86 for ACC. (I used the lighter)
Didnt take too many pics because it is stupidly simple & I needed it done fast.
Figured I shot a short vid of teh car also.

cool.

I dont understand how this is going to fix the problem with the bad ignition, since you said it is going bad in the run position, which is where the key has to stay anyways.

Sorry, I meant start position. In the RUN position, just push the switch & it starts up.
I am a bit tired today. Severe migraines & shoulder pains are back, so tomorrow I go to my doc again to get more shots in my back.
Sorry for the incorrect info.

I wish there was a way to adapt the ignition system from the new g35 and lexus is series cars into other vehicles.

You could, it's just a button. I am looking for a way to use a Corvette-style transponder.

Its basically a computer that recieves a particular signal from a transponder that sends a signal to a relay which engages a solenoid to the "run" position, from there, you just have the push button set up as your, well, you know the rest.

It's more of a matter of getting your hands on said transponder, computer, etc, and then integrating it with your ignition system and any aftermarket alarm you may be running on the car.

They had one on the market back in 2002, it just never took off because they marketed to the wrong people. What Honda kid would spend 2K for a push button start kit like what we have in new cars now?

I would replace that starter, LOL! Sounds like it was struggling there. Or maybe run a lot thicker wire all the way through, thin wire may not be gauged properly and may just fry out after a while.

The push start is nifty . . .no practical purpose, but it is cool! I would get one of those buttons that say -START-, or hook it up to a PS2 controller and have it start when you press -X- . . . HAHAHA!

The starter is original. But I rebuilt it with new brushes & cleaned all the crap out of it. The car was pretty much constantly flooded with rain water. Took off the starter & about 1/4 of it was covered with rust, dirt & such on the inside(like when you see the marks on a flood wall...that is what the starter looked like). But, Hey it gets the car started. Remember right now I am still in the "get all the bugs out of it & get it running good & safe" stage

Next month I am actually going to be buying the first performance enhancing parts for it. Complete suspension bushings & a clutch set.
USMC..how did you know what I was going to be doing? I havent told anyone about the controller. But I will be using XBOX instead. The gauge wire is fine. Going to the relay can be pretty small. BUT, from the relay to the starter, needs to be somewhat big.
Also, that vid was starting the car COLD. The fuel system is all stock & needs work(as does alot still on the car). But once started, it will fire right up with almost no hesitation.

Sounds like a plan dude, I hope you don't get so wrapped up in the glitz and glamor that you forget that performance is key, there is a lot to get done, once it runs and drives the way you want it, then you should move on to installing 16 button Atari Jaguar controllers to drive the car, LMAO!

As for knowing . . .I'm clairvoyant when drunk . . .LMAO!!!

Stig, I thought we were going to do the Atari joystick on my ride?

Anyways, I was thinking about the push button start up and I realized that I cant do it with the way my alarm is set up. Suckers way too complicated to mess with LOL
