actually, does anybody know if Nissan ever did a recall because of this problem? I mean it IS a problem that could potentially have disastrous consequences right?

You know what, that is true, but they did send a maintenance bulletin to nissan dealership's/ mechs to remove them. As for the guides, holy ****! How long did it take you to find it all? Good job!

It was all in the oil pan. They re-designed the guide and you can buy a full timing chain kit for about $81 at Auto Zone

What comes with the kit? (besides the chain, for the smart *** people out their!)
What were the symptoms or were you looking for 'em because you wanted to the guide removal?
What are the symptoms when your chain is bad?

What comes with the kit is: chain, both guides (they remade them so they wouldn't brake like the original ones), and the cranks for the chain. $81.. I found out that my timing chain was loose because I was painting my valve cover and discovered i had a lot of slack in the chain. I dunno about the other question. I wasn't trying to remove guides, I was trying to put them in.

Basically they told you, "we could fix it, but we don't wanta, beat it" Sounds like a bunch of b/s to me. I hate when people do that. Did you complain about that to anyone?

hey th3br4d, how much slack is too much? Mine has more slack on the right side than on the left side where the tensioner is. It's like the tensioner should be on the right rather than on the left. I tugged at it and there wasn't that much slack on the left. Hmmmm, do you think I should replace mine anyway?

I would go buy the kit for it if I were you.. You don't want to screw that whole engine up! $81 is better than having to pay $200+ for a new engine.
