i think i remember from another thread that for sure both the S13 DOHC and the S14 DOHC trannies have the exact same part #, meaning it would be the same either way?

Yeah, with the same engine's, and the trannies are interchangeable if not the same, then yeah, gotta be pretty close to identical

but then wouldn't the engine output between SOHC and DOHC make a difference in final top speed in a specific gear, even if the gearing is the same? Plus the weight difference in the chassis too? I'd figure that the weight difference would change it alone.

yeah, that why I didn't mention SOHC, because they aren't the same engine, i only said DE because it's the same engine and identical tranny.

just an (under)educated guess, but i'm thinking that the speed governor stops it there?? i dunno if it does this by actual speed or by a combination of current gear (in this case, 5th) and RPM...

yup sounds about right

i have a 89 coupe 5sp and in 3 can hit 86 havent pushed it to its limits yet

i have the ownders manual and it says
do not exceed the max suggested speed
1st @ 30 MPH 45 km/h
2nd @ 55MPH 90 km/h
3rd @ 80 MPH 130 km/h

although i have exceeded these speeds thats what the maual suggests
