Help/Advice needed

Hi, I'm new to the forums and may be owning a s14(kouki)/s15 hybrid soon. The only issue is I live in California and the motor of the car isn't doing great. I haven't talked to my friend's brother (the owner of the car) to see if he knows what's wrong with it, but he's selling it for $1500 I heard and I'm pretty sure everything is fine except the motor. Worse comes to worse I'm gonna have to buy a ka24de and drop it in. I found this one for $600 and was wondering what that hissing noise while he was revving is. Also what should I be looking for when buying a 240 or a motor.

sounds like a good deal to me $1500 with no motor is a steal with a decent body.. but since you said its a s15 hybrid look for hidden body damage... think about why change the front clip?? hmm?? maybe a wreck?? anything is possible ... as far as the hissing noise it could be anything from the intake sucking in air and causing the hiss to a vacuum line been off or dry rotted... also if it is a auto make sure the trans doesn't slip.. if manual trans make sure the clutch isnt worn out and sliping.... and the rest is just like buying any car check for recent paint work / body damage, rust , dents, stains, glass cracks or chips?, brake noises? engine or tranny leaks?? that just about covers it.... good luck with the buy... i mean steal!!! lol

lucky you
Eric

$1500 is a good price for a s14 with no motor, just check the title for a salvage and look the body/frame over really well to make sure there is no damage. Also, if a motor is hissing when revving it could be several different things, and I wouldn't buy it. If you need a motor and tranny I would buy one from some one on your local 240 forum, its the best way to go.

thanks! what should I look at if the engine isn't in the car anymore? cause the dude that posted that motor for sale said he was dropping an sr20 in that's why he wants to get rid of the ka24de.

oh yeah here's the info on the motor

First of all, don't put a s13 motor in a s14. Secondly, that guy mention compression on the engine is 150psi, brand new engines come with 171psi, and Nissan recommends you rebuild the engine at 149psi. So that engine needs to be rebuilt as something is wrong with it, Nissan engine should last wayyyy past 124K miles without a problem (my '95 engine with 130K miles on it is at 168psi)

You can put an s13 engine in an s14... It's the same engine... As long as the engine is a KA24DE not a KA24E...

Right, you can, I just don't see the point in putting an older engine with a inferior head in a newer car

no so much the head as it is the intake manifold of the older KAde with the secondary swirl valves.... which can be removed.

I have had every year KA.... currently running a 98 head and block with 95 stripped intake manifold with 93 electronics..

they all felt the same to me personally.
