How to fix odometer?

My odometer just stopped working and all the numbers line up correctly. I hear that is perhaps the speed sensor or something that may have gone bad causing my odometer to stop working. How should I go about trying to fix this?

there is a tiny motor that runs the odo... and it can go bad or the little gear on the back of it breaks.... it is the size of a tape recorder motor... tiny little thing that makes life hel if it ever goes out... it can be replaced but the gear i dont know where to find it unless you get it outta junkyard...

so basically I have to take out my odometer, place it next to one from a junkyard and swap the gears? It sucks because the DMV already knows the mileage isn't correct on it. The guy I bought it from made me sign a waiver. Oh well I just want to get it fixed now.
