Question How to silence an exaust?

Ok so i have a a 2 1/4" exaust with no cat and i keep getting pulled over and ticketed. So i ordered a magnaflow high flow cat and i have dc sports header to compliment it...but with the header obviously its not going to help it. Is there anyway i can quiet the system down?? anyone sell a universal silencer?? i have a dual tip muffler from meineke by the way. I really need help guys. thanks.

Also, put a high flow cat on. No cat is immensely noisy. I've got a 3-inch test pipe, but I like the way my exhuast sounds.

2.25 inch is relatively small so like everybody else said, a resonator should do the trick, if you still have problems with police harrassing you weld on a diffeent muffler, anything that is not a "canister type" should do the trick, (magnaflow, dynomax, and other domestic brands offer great mufflers for cheap)

anywhere in the piping would be good, mine is right before the rear subframe. I have a 6'' muffler with 3'' piping, you should be nice and quiet after that stuff.

awesome guys..Im gonna install the header and cat this week and see what the noise is like..most likely i'll have to order one off of eBay anyway..one more thing, am i gonna have to weld on a flange or anything for the resonator? Like will it go header->cat->resonator->welded flange->pipe->muffler??

if you want, you can weld flanges, but its not nessesary, u can just weld that shiet anywhere on the piping, just take out a section of piping the same length as the res and replace.

one more thing..do you think there will be any great performance loss if i add the resonator along with the high flow?

your not going to get a huge performance gain over stock with just a high flow cat and cat back anyways... shouldnt hurt

woah, how did u get my name? lol, well a resonator, high-flow cat, and muffler seems to be the best setup for the street based on compromise between flow and noise level. A 2.5"-2.75" diameter piping would be ideal, but your 2.25" is definately a upgrade from stock.
