in which i build a junkyard turbo kit....
looking to spend under $1 grand
looking for about 7psi and about 200 whp

junkyard turbo- dsm or 300zx possibly
manifold
downpipe
oil lines
coolant lines
flexible intake piping/apex cone filter
breather filter
junkyard intercooler
some sort of FMU- apex maybe(but their website says that you need an apex shop to install it), or possibly an AIC (http://www.rbracing-rsr.com/rsraic400.htm)
fuel pump

comments/opinions anyone? (especially on FMUs)

Apex is ****, don't go with them. I've read numerous articles on their FMU's and many have disliked them.

Also, under a grand REALLY is pushin it. The reason is that the manifolds have to be made custom (which makes it difficult) along with the downpipe flanges. Be scepticle of the junkyard intercoolers. There's a reason they're in the junkyard, (if you know what Im saying haha) so a junkyard cooler might be dificult to get a hold of. Boost controller and BOV will also needed to be added to the list.

Also, how many miles do you have on you're engine? If its an high mileage engine you need new headgasket and piston rings. (so do a compression test as well). You can run it without these dont, but be careful.

New things to add to list:

clutch, exaust, ecu reprogram

Also, I thought you were looking into the kit from nsport.

But a junkyard turbo would def. be a good option to choose.

As for under $1000, i dont think it can be done effectively.
at least 1800 would be my guess. I say this because when you start researching for places to buy these products, that it's not as easy as it looks.

Dont go cheap on anything you do, beause it will end up costing you in the long run, as many ppl on this board will agree.

If I think of more I will notify you.

my dad is an EDM specialist (glorified machinist), so i can get parts fabricated for a good price (manifold and downpipe).
i did forget about the BOV, which will be recirculating
i am planning on welding in an exhaust dump before the cat, so with a pull of a cord, i will be dumping, but otherwise i'll run quietly on the stock exhaust
if i get an FMU, do i need an ecu reprogram?
my engine has 100,000 miles on it (middle aged for a nissan), but it passed its compression test with flying colors
as for the intercooler, i'll probly look for an eclipse side mount or maybe buy someone's sr20 stock IC

btw, thanks for your opinions. let me know if you think theres anything else i should know.

o and the nsport kit- $4 grand is a lot of money, i think i can do better for less

Mitsubishi Starion / Chrysler Conquest had a good sized front mount intercooler you may want to check out.
