Identifying Ka24de in junkyard
In my local pick n pull there are a couple of KA24DEs there. I was looking at them to find a good solid core to start a rebuild on.
Question is this, how do I tell if it's the DE that was initially transverse mounted, or the proper one for the 240?
They are just sitting out, relatively complete and I definitely do not want to buy the wrong motor.
Thanks,
E

If its for the 240sx, then it would be the rear wheel drive KA, so look for things like an Engine Fan mounted on the front of the block, as well as belts and pulleys on the front of the motor. Also if the transmission is still mounted, you can tell obviously.
Also if the motor mounts are still attached they would be on the L/R side of the motor.

None of which is mounted on the engine. It is basically stripped except for the block, heads and intake.
Are there any identifying casting marks? I did manage to find the casting mark that identified it as a KA24 but offerered no more information than that.

Well a direct give away is the intake system used on the 240sx KA24de's the runners to the intake plenum system are curved really long. KA24de also uses a distributor that runs through the head and opposite of the intake. There is also a belt driven fan on FR engine systems.
