idle question

I am having a problem with my 93 240se. Everytime I start the car when it is warm, my rpm goes from 1500 - 400 (chokes, sometimes dies) then jumps around from 500-600 at idle. what is the problem? please help me. it is very annoying for me to start the car and step on some gas to prevent the car from dying.

I had the exact same problem. Replaced my fuel filter for a new one ($8) and everything was OK again.

after changing the fuel filter, it still has that problem. if my car was carburator injection i'd spray some carb cleaner in my intake, but its fuel injection. so can anyone help on this?

When was the last time you gave the car a good tune up? Checking the fuel filter is good but what about the spark plugs and wires. If they're still good, you may just need to clean them off a bit. You might also want to look at your fuel injectors and make sure that they're all working right.

Good luck,
Matt

I don't think the 300zx fuel filter will be any better, the 300zx just needs more fuel so it just allows more fuel to pass through. Doesn't really help your car performance any.

The 300ZX filter won't increase performance, it just has a bigger filter element. It won't increase flow or anything since it's inlet and outlet are the same size as the stock 240's....

yeah, my car has been having the same problem..it doesnt die ever, but it sometimes jumps to as high as 1500rpm! MY fuel filter, plugs and wires and all are good. I got a new throttle position sensor today and im gonna put it in on sunday, see if it helps. If it does, ill let you know for sure. I read somewhere that the ECU can misread the TPS outputs, so you have to reburn your ECU by doing a bunch of crap, but since i have a JWT ECU with 10k on it, i dont think thats it.
