Importing cars...
thank you everyone for all the help. tomorrow i am planning on giving the port of miami a call and finding out all the details, and then calling my insurance and finding out all those details. if anything i'll stick my baybe 240! heck yeauh!
well if u have money pay someone to perform a clean vin swap door jams window motor and firewall ,dash every thing.
i personaly am working to purchase an r32 ( and swap the steering wheel configuration ) from a florida dealer, i will tow it to my home and save more money for a professional vin swap,
wikd240 and zep both brough up all the fact ( good research) but me personaly man i work hard in school and at work and u only live once, i will drive a skyline no matter what. And i am willign to work hard to make money and pay.
Money talks in america ( great country buy its corrupt and we all know that)

Is it US or Canada that has the 15 or 20 year rule?
Anyway, grow out of dreaming about having a street legal skyline. We all passed that phase when we were 15.
These cars are considerably cheap when imported for off road use. If you have the money then do it though motorex but I don't know exactly how you'll get an insurance quote on it.
I was at Englishtown, NJ raceway park when some guy brought an R33 to the track that he got through motorex. I wonder what his insurance premium is, especially if he lives in NJ.

canada has the 15 year rule. i have a friend in canada that imports overseas vehicles.
yea a lot of ppl dream about having these...but it involves a ton of problems.
1. how many mechanics do u know in the states that can work on a skyline if you cant do all of it yourself.
2. parts are expensive
3. parts are special order and dont exist here
4. extremely high insurance
5. need to adapt to RHD...but after u can deliever the mail
6. regardless of legalization, its still a big "pull me over" magnet
7. you can expect to pay around 12-20 thousand just to legalize it not including the price to ship it and then pay the tax and then registration fee and then the actual price of the car. When you really begin doing all the math, you can get a nice s14 with a lot of modifications with it, or hell even a new car.
but if you really dream and feel its necessary, then go for it. It's always good to have a dream, that way you have something to aim for.
personaly i am aware of the risk and all skyline enthusisit are to. its not a dream like im a kid lol. i just want it. I am entering the feild of Information technology so i will have enough money i think lol . Also i was going to get an rb20 and put it in my 240, with that money i could take it and pay $5000 ( they are on ebay alot now) to get one of those illegal skyline abandoned by motorex custumers and just store it at a family members house.
Im intalling a CA18det with an upgraded turbo system, ill be ok for a while.
p.s in the import culture its about who you know and what u can have done.

if u go there u are not only paying for the car u are paying all the taxes, shipping fees, and all the money it took to legalize. the vin job alone runs about 4000 i read somewhere. so u are looking about about 65K or so even more. i am not paying that much for mine ill tell u that
i called my insuarnce today (progressive) and they asked me for the VIN number on the car... i told her i was importing it and didn't have it at the time... she told me she could not find the Skyline model in her computer... then, i called the port of miami to ask about it, but since it's not registered in america, and it costs 10,700 so i need to hire a brooker now...
ok insurance wise, they list it as "GTR" its not known as skyline. if you find the importation list (which i forgot the link to) its listed as GTR
most places charge 12-15k for legalization process. however u still need to add shipping, registration, taxes and the cost of the car itself. prices for skylines are actually not that bad..but everythinig else makes it worse
oh yea, i heard that you cant buy the "abandoned" skylines of motorex customers. DOT currently has them registered on their list, thus if any transaction occurs, they will know and most likely stop it because of all the problems with it right now or simply destroy the car.
unless you are at a coporate level executive or a rich family memeber or a company owner, then going for a skyline is pretty much out of your league. if you do work hard for it, and you get it, but at the end you still end up short on everything else. why get something that is worth more than your time and money? why not wait till 2007 when the new GTR comes to america? i mean dreams are good to have, but dont be blinded by it.

very good points but man u know that the skyline that comes here will be about the same as the track modle Z and its coming to america another things emissions would kill it. but hey im a tuner so if it comes to that ill just modify it the day i leave the dealer cause i would never go to a dealer for anything. man just as peopel talk about enzo's and lambos as dream cars . if i can an R32 vspec II i would be happy.C-walk no one is saying ur wrong but depending one where u live
car laws are difff. If i lived in Cali i would really give it up cause i would probably get busted in about 10 min after i leave my house. i have met 5 skyline owners ( all in the feild of IT and bio **** ) and they told me what they did, some of it was illegal but they were from VA and MD . im from baltimore city lol all they worry about is drugs and murders.
by the way i go to university of maryland and a kid has two r32's he lives in rockville md
