Legality Issues and SR20DET Conversion Difficulty

Hello,

I'm considering getting a 240SX and doing a complete S15 conversion (If anyone knows of a clean 240 in CA let me know please.) I was wondering about the legality of the conversion.

I've heard, and believe, that legally, in CA, you can replace your cars engine as long as it's with an engine from a later model year. However, I've only heard this to be true in regards to Hondas where everyone and their mom drops in a 98 JDM Type R to whatever Civic/Integra they own.

How does this apply to the SR20DET? I would think the turbo would raise some issues.

Also, how difficult is this swap? Is it a simple drop in or is there any custom work involved? In either case, what is a good price for the parts, and what is a good price for the work (if it proves to be too difficult for me to handle.) Where is a good shop to get the total package done?

If anyone has some SOLID info for me, it will be greatly appreciated.

Thank You

I dont think it would be legal in cali because they dont have sr20det in any us stock car. they have the sr20de, but not det. reason b series motors can go into hondas is because they have them around in the states. but the jdm b series i dont think would be legal.. i dont know if i made sense lol. but yea. i dont think its legal.

Oops, I tried to change it but could not edit the actual thread title.

Does anyone else have opinions on the legality of this swap? I tend to agree with Jin, but REALLY don't want to

How about the actual difficulty of the swap as well as cost, and shops that will do it right.

Thanks,
Griffin

i dont think the swap should be too hard. if you can take things apart and put them back together I think it would be pretty straightforward. and if you do get stuck you always have club240 with answers, and the internet has endless amounts of information also. another thing, i say so it yourself. that way, you will learn more
