looking for a 240
looking for a 240
well i just signed here and all and just wanted to welcome myself to you guys. well i found a 89' 240sx in my town for $1795 with its usual wears and tears with 179xxx miles on the car. it was at a dealer and i didn't get to check out the engine but on the outside it lookes pretty decent for its age. there were only a few rust spots on it but not many, so i was wondering if a 240sx that old with that many miles on it would be a good by or should i just look into another one. thanks for any comments.
Since its from a dealer you may not be able to get your hands on any of the maintenance papers . At 179,xxx miles one thing is almost certain .. You WILL need a timing chain job .. If you cant do this yourself , you are probably looking at atleast 700-800 bucks for just that ... And if that baby is running stock suspension, they are probably worn out as well ... To really enjoy the 240 you need good suspension ( twisties here I come
) KYB's would run you atleast 300-400 bucks ... so factor these in when you decide what to pay .... Tell the dealer these points when you bargain ...
I have seen 240's with 220K miles and still running strong .. The iron block in the KA is really bullet proof and if you keep taking care of it , it should last you a long time ...
Good luck with the car if you decide to buy it...
