lost key

Buddy with an S13 lost his key, and instead of paying like a hundred bucks for a locksmith, we had heard a rumor that if you took the VIN number to a dealership, they could cut you a new key. Just wondering, trying to save him a few bucks.

went to google and found this:

urban legend aside, it seems that yes, your idea might work. I'm guessing all they need is proof of ownership along with an ID.

good luck

may not work, the dealer here said they cannot go back further than 1995 or 1996 I believe, thus s13's are out of the question. You can check your local dealer though and see what they say.

check to see if the car insurance provides certain road side services. My insurance services provides jimmying the car (for leaving keys on the car, etc). Even if its not free, it still might be cheaper than the locksmith.
go to any indepedent nissian shop and get a new $10 keylock

It would kinda suck if the proof of ownership is locked in the glovebox

probably the easiest thing to do.... remove door handle and take it to a lock smith. should run around 20-30 dollars to have a new key cut. i've done it before.

assuming that your buddy can get into the car somehow /\/\/\/\/\/\ This would be an easy route to go. I did this on my old muscle car when I lost my door key, It cost me an hour of my time (removing/reinstalling the unit) and 15 bucks at a local lock smith

OMG I can open my s13 in 15 sec flat. Its by far the easiest car to open. About the key, yeah take it to locksmith, he'll cut you one for like 30$
