LSD, front clip, zenki
LSD, front clip, zenki
i'm still a rookie when it comes to 240's, so a few questions? i know LSD is limited slip differential, but what's it for or what does it do? and how do i know if the one i'm gonna purchase has it? and what's a front clip? and finally, not quite understanding the "zenki".

LSD: locks the drive wheels together so that they spin at the same speed. when cornering w/an open differential (read: NO LSD), the outer wheel will spin faster than the inner wheel because it has to travel a longer distance. in this situation, power isn't transferred equally to both wheels. an LSD overcomes this. it's also helpful for acceleration (e.g., when u do a burnout and realize only one tire track is made instead of two).
best way to tell if ur car has one is to look for the little orange sticker on the diff case. there are other methods, too (jacking up the rear end and spinning a wheel, doing a burnout, etc).
front clip: the front portion of a car cut up to the console (i believe). the reason why people get these instead of just motor sets is that they typically (99.9% of the time) include everything needed for an engine swap (and sometimes other goodies like body panels, lights, brakes, parts for rhd conversion, etc).
zenki: kinda like the first generation of a generation. example:
89-94 S13
95-98 S14
two different generations of 240sx. now, of those generations:
S13
89-90 S13 zenki
91-94 S13 chuki
94.5-98 S13 (japan only 180sx) kouki
S14
95-96 S14 zenki
97-98 S14 kouki
again, i'm not the most knowledgable person here, but there's a slight chance i could be right about this.
hope this helps!Last edited by Sil40_Mayhem; Sep 11, 2003 at 11:02 AM.

Think of it this way. You have the same amount of force to turn two like items different distances. So you make it so that the one that travels less just doesn't work as hard.
Here is a good place I go to for oil and information.

ur pretty damn cool urself, man!
Right idea wrong wheel. The inner wheel spins more because it has less distance to travel. If it takes the outter wheel 10 times to travel in a turn it might only take the inner 3.
i knew it was something like that. i half forgot and was feeling too lazy to be sure about it. laff if u want, but there is an excellent tutorial about differentials (and pretty much everything else
) at "How Stuff Works". that's usually where i turn for my most basic q's. hell, that's where i got the general (albeit poorly remembered) idea about diffs.Thread
