new F.I. idea? suggestions welcome

Okay, today an idea popped into my haed. It was inspired by hearing of certain model rx-7s having sequential turbo setups. Well my idea was something like that. I was thinking of having both a centrifugal supercharger and a turbo on a 240sx. Now keep in mind, this would be best suited to high boost applications in my oipinion. Okay heres how i would see it working. Lets say you have a supercharger pushing 5 psi of boost, im not sure how much they usually push cuz im not an expert on superchagers. That superchager produces constant power. Now you also have a turbo, lets say with max boost of 10-15 psi. Being that i love the response and instant power of NA motors, the supercharger would produce enough power to get you to where the turbo spools up, where the turbo would take over. The outlet pipes of the 2 systems would have some sort of check valve in them so they dont blow each other up. It just seemed like a neat idea.. what do you guys think?

i duno if a 240 has had it but ive seen some cars with both supercharger/turbo, kinda cool but i dont really think its worth the money for the performance.

seems like having a gasoline and diesel engine in one car---the gasoline engine goes well off the line, but the diesel has the torque to keep the car going at high speeds---good for auto shows, not for driving---thats just me, though that rb does look perty sick

Regardless of the size of the turbines, they are still forcing the same amount of air through the same system. If one is so small that it spools at a low enough RPM for it to count, two things happen:

1. Theoretically it would blow, because even though there are two turbines, they are still forcing the same amount of air, so they're running at the same PSI. If the smaller turbo is so small, it wont be able to produce as much as the larger, thus limiting the larger.

2. This being said, If you were to limit the PSI of the system to make sure that nothing blew, the gains would be so minimal that it wouldn't nearly be worth the money.

You may also be wondering ... then how does he run different pressures with the S/C ?? I'm not sure if that is possible. I know very little about FI ... maybe someone can better answer that question.

My guess is that the S/C is on a ocmpletely different system, which allows for a higher or lower PSI.

Both threads are about the same setup, just broken up into 2 parts.


Must be nice to own a speed shop huh? I wonder how well a similar setup on an rb would perform, acheiving high boost with initial spool up around 1k rpm sounds pretty sweet.

called twin charging.
i believe M(could be wrong) series nissan motors were twin charged stock.

O.k the idea of sequential turbo charging is simple.
Take a smaller faster spooling turbo to a larger one that takes longer to spool. That way spool time is increased with more HP sooner. Thats about it, it stretches the power band...
