Nissan designers on crack?
A real Skyline?
You do, of course, realize that the Skyline is basically a family sedan even in Japan? There have been way more Skyline 4 door sedans and wagons produced than GTR's.
The GTR is an ultimate performance machine that is based on the Skyline chassis. It generally comes out AFTER the regular sedans are produced.
To critique the G35 for not being a GTR is quite premature. Nobody knows for sure what Nissan has in store for the GTR on the current platform. The rumors have ranged from a V8 to a twin turbo V6 with electrically-assisted turbos.
The GTR has always been a very low volume car. Nissan never bothered bringing it here because it would be a ton of work and expense to bring in only the least common variant of the Skyline for sale in the US. By the time they paid to have the car meet US safety standards and emissions, it would be priced in the range of Ferrari 355s and Porsche 911 turbos.
The G35 has made it to the US market. It's a great car - have you driven one? After years of trying to convince us that the Maxima is a four door sports car, they brought us a competent RWD chassis with respectable power. In addition to being a great car in its own right, it also paves the way for Nissan to bring the GTR here if when it's ready.
Nissan has given us some great cars in the past few model years. The SER SpecV kicks ***. Then we got the 350Z - putting $50k worth of performance on the lot for $30k! The G35 sedan is ugly and boring lookign, but can still hold its own against other entry-lux performace sedans. Finally the G35 coupe, just slightly less performace oriented than the Z with enough luxury not to make it's price appropriate (The last S14's often stickered over $25k, with very little power and not nearly enough features to compete).
Complain if you want, but I finally like what I'm seeing from Nissan.

in japan the car is called the Skyline V35. i really like how people who have likely never even SEEN a skyline in person, except maybe in the odd car show or something, or even DRIVEN one, can talk about what a skyline is or isnt. has anybody here even driven the G35? so quick to judge, so slow to learn.
I love the new XVL based cars coming out of Nissan. I don't see how so many poeple can ***** about it being a V6 now. I mean how many of us have even gotten to drive a car w/ a RB26DETT? It's not like you're gonna feel your missing out with this new V6 since you have nothing to compare it to.With the VQ Nissan changed the overall wieght balance 2% since they're a front mid engine design along with the next gen. attessa the R35should kick the **** outta the R34. I think you should all stop talking about a GTR we can't afford and see if you can find anything out about the next Silvia. I heard it'll also be based on the front mid engine XVL chassis, have a SR20VET and be affordable.

Look I love the skyline GTR and it will always be my favorite car, it can make incredible power ( there is one in Japan that is making over 1450HP without any Nitrous or alcohol.
I know plenty about them ( I have helped my friend take his apart and put it together plenty of times). I have drove a G35 and they are incredible. Infiniti is going to make all there cars either RWD or 4WD by 2005......so yes the G35 will be 4WD and imagine the aftermarket performance parts that will be coming out for the G35. The car just came out so how is anyone going to talk s**t about it when they have no clue what it is capable of?

Everything I've heard suggests that the S15 will be the last of the Silvia line unless they resurrect it some time in the future.
I've also read in more than one place that the SR motor will also go bye bye with the RB due to the new emissions atndards in Japan, but that may have just been the SR20DET.

Sorry about that guys. I have no idea why that happened.
Anyway.. all I heard about the S16 is just that the silvia won't under go big changes like the skyline or Z. Most likely have an SR20VE(T) due to, like Justin said, new emissions. And should be cheap and fun, being oriented to entusiasts. Should be in America too.

I know what you are saying a totally understand it. I wish that they would bring the skyline out here (RB26DETT) but they are not
. Lets not argue about the G35/ 350z and just sit back and watch what they are made of when the parts start rolling out. I mean the Japanese love the car and knows what it is capable of so why can't we?

I'd complain that they didnt bring the rb26dett to the states.... they basically combining the 300zx with the skyline to make a g35 now... i hate the thought of that.. boooo
