comments: a 22mm wrench is fine for taking off the OEM o2 sensor, but putting it on seems to be the real problem, the new o2 sensor sits a bit more in the exhaust manifold and you can't put the 22mm wrench onto it, this is why you need a special o2 sensor socket so you can tighten it even though the nut is inside the exhaust manifold

i didn't show a picture of the o2 sensor socket, but i went out and got one just to tighten it up, it cost me about $8 after tax at my local auto parts shop, it's basically a 22mm deep socket with a slit on the side for the wire, it attachs to a 3/8" drive ratchet and makes the job much easier

 

cool right up, my change only takes about 5 min,

well becuause i have performance headers with no heat sheld and no emission stuff in the way.

 

good stuff, I will replace that damn thing one of these days...

 

what are the reasons you change an o2. every how many miles do you need to replace it. do you fill a diff. in any thing

 

an o2 sensor becomes faulty after a while, and change intervals vary from car to car, for example, my corolla was a 98, and i had it since brand new, never changed the o2 and it had about 110k miles on it, the 240 i have now has 145k but i purchased it used a month ago, and recently i got a CEL so i decided to change it out anyways

when you get a faulty o2 sensor, it sends bad information back to your ecu and then your computer dumps more fuel, wasting gas, poor performance, running rich, and damaging your catalytic converter

since my car had 145k, purchased from a guy who never took care of it, and a smelly exhaust, and a recent CEL, i concluded that the o2 sensor was already bad, so i just changed it out, it was about 25 bucks to buy universal one and about 40 bucks to buy OE type with the harness on it, i felt comfortable splicing and crimping because i do audio work, so i just bought a universal one

Edit: with the new sencor you installed the size and look makes no difference because it is just a universal one or are there advantages for the different size etc?

 

i have a noob question. Do you screw off the o2 sensor harness or pop it off? It looks like a pop off kind of deal but i wanna be sure.

 

It screws off. I bought the OEM one when I replaced my. I no longer had a delay in power that I had when the engine was cold with the old O2 sensor. Whats wierd though is that it didn't have that little plate adapter. Probably because it was OEM huh?

dohc o2 dont come with that lil plate, Mine didn on any of my Ka24de motors

 

orrr, you could get the NGK oem type O2 sensor and not go thru the extra steps.

 

yeah, i only got a bosch because it was about 25 bucks and they had it in stock

i believe the DOHC doesn't have the adapter thing, only the SOHC's do
