I use Mobil 1 15w-30 for my CA. It is a synthetic that is made specially for higer mmilage engines. I really like it and the engine feel realy smooth (have not tryed anyother oil yet) but it is really expensive

Synthetic oil is much more expensive, but the engine will love you for it. It lasts longer between oil changes and the engine performs better and lasts longer as well. There are sites that will give info on viscosity and such.

Redline is a GREAT synthetic high performance oil. EXPENSIVE though.

Well, for my first oil change, I used Mobil1 10w/30. I've always liked Mobil1, but this topic is still kind of controversial. I'm too tired/lazy to do a search myself, but I bet if you search google for this topic you'll find some articles. My Sport Rider magazine recently had some very in-depth articles on the capabilities of non/semi/full-synthetic motor oils on bikes. Quite interesting.... but my opinion is the synthetic do a better job. But I still don't like to go over 3000mi for a change. The sooner the better. And what's a few extra bucks in protecting my baby?

It's better, but not for high milage cars that have been running mineral oils for a long time. The switch can and most likely will cause leaks in seals.

I am pretty sure that synthic oil causes less friction, and we all now that friction is our enemy when it comes to power.

Not if you're talking about tires, clutches, or brakes.

it's my understanding that synthetic oil maintains it's viscosity longer than mineral based oil. if that's right, then that means that it doesn't break down as quickly as regular oil. also, if i'm not mistaken, synthetic oil may have a higher flash point. at any rate, heres a site with a good breakdown about oil:

http://www.vtr.org/maintain/oil-overview.html

hope this helps!

Synthetic will not loose its viscosity as much when it heats up. So you can run a thinner oil (more power due to les weight) without ruining your engine. Some new synthetic oils have chemicals in them that clog SMALL leaks. (the mobil 1 15W-30 formulated for higher milage engines ) There are also Blends which have about a 50/50 split of synthetic and mineral oil. this is good to do a couple times b4 u change to a full synthetic cuz it will show the leaks u might have
