Yeah those directions pretty much sum it up. And that goes for most cars including the S13s and S14s.

Just have something like a bucket under the oilpan because once the drain plug comes loose oil poors out very quickly and becareful not to burn yourself as the oil may be hot.

Well, I haven't changed my oil yet but I have changed it in other cars. We got almost 3 in a Jetta the other day.

they have oil drain containers at advance auto parts. get one of those. fits 15quarts. when you need to get rid of the oil, go back to advance auto parts and dump it.
get some latex gloves if you want to protect those pretty little hands of yours.

Well, thats all good advice for the oil change. 4 quarts is right, you can find out for yourself, theirs some fsm's on this forum that will lead you to download it if you want to see it in paper. To replace your valve cover gasket, you'll need to get a torque wrench if you ain't got one, or else you'll f-up your crap. Your gasket is rubber for the valve,(so the spark plug one too) You'll need gasket maker(rtv) for your oil pan, theirs no actual gasket for it. Recycle your oil, believe me, you don't want to get caught dumping that crap. There's auto places who take it. good luck!

if you want to see it on paper, look in your owner's manual.
that is where i looked when i got my car.

the fsm covers removing and installing the valve cover.
also. l2aine has a site http://garage.projectraine.com (hope i got that right)

Hi l2aine, you might not know me, but i'm KA240SX on 240sxforums.com. i found some interesting material on your site, keep it up

and about recycling the oil, i said in the post above that advance auto parts will take it.

good luck with your first oil change.
i recently convinced a friend of mine to maintain his car by himself.
he cleaned his TB and maf. liked the improvement. said he got so much satisfaction out of it that he's decided to buy some floor jacks so he could start doing his own oil changes.

Motor oil can cause skin cancer, plus if it doesn't burn your bare hand the engine aint hot enough.

You're not going to want to change your oil pan gasket by yourself~ it pretty much entails dropping your front suspension or lifting the engine... which is probably why the shop you went to quoted you $700 for that job. Don't do it unless you really really need to...

the motor doesnt have to be jacked all the way up, just about a inch or so. the mounts are flexiable enough. all u have to do is jack on the middle of the tranny to raise the motor if u wanna loosen the mounts its only 2X14mm nuts. nothing serious.

ps dont take the nuts all the way off or eles u will have to re-seat the motor which is not hard to do but why go through it.

hmm... by middle of the tranny do you mean where the bell housing tapers off? I think the tranny drain plug is right around there. I'm asking 'cuz wikd240 had told me that I needed to drop the oil pan in order to get my front cover off~ which is what I need to re-gasket 'cuz it's leaking...
