paranoid..

Ok, I pretty much just got my 240sx and it has 160,000 miles and is known to burn oil. Thing is I'm really paranoid about blowing the engine or breaking something anytime I start having some fun in the car. Am I just paranoid or should I not go racing around etc. ?

If some other people could tell me what sort of abuse they do to their car and the shape its in it might help....

If its burning oil then you might need some work, but it all depends on how you feel the car and how bad you are beating it.
Like me for example, I found out I needed new TC bushings and stoped "trying" to drift till they get here.

My car burns a little oil, especially in second gear acceleration. This is with 130K on the KA motor. I don't really worry about it because if this motor does blow than I'll have just more ambition to go out and buy my red top.

It all pretty much depends on if you want to keep that motor for a while or not. Do you plan on doing a swap anytime soon?

If it makes you feel any better, and I know it probably won't, my CRX has 201,000 miles on her and she's still goin'.

I see it like this, you only live once, have fun, if your engine blows you grab a new one. Just make sure you have the funds if anything should happen.

Well, I have 172,000mi on my '93 240... I felt the same way when I first got it a little while ago. Mine also "burns" oil (I'm not sure if it's burning, but it's not leaking) but as long as you keep it full it's not that big of a deal usually, I think. I kick it up to redline every once in a while, but not too often. I don't think a race here or there would kill it, but you take that chance with an older engine!
I'm tryin to save for the sr20, but I'm nowhere near it yet, so I don't want this one to blow!!
