Question about a 240 I'm considering buying

I've found a nice 240sx I wanna take a look at. Its a 1996 240 SX SE and I can get it for $3500. The guy said it just passed the Nissian 100 point inspection. Its an auto though and has 130,000 miles on it. What was my question had to do with the miles. How long would this car last for since it has the millage it does. I dont wanna get something then have it break down. I'm not planning on doing an engine swap or anything. I just thought I'd get your guys opionion first.

Most likely it's going to last awhile... It's an automatic, which probably means the people that owned it probably didn't "rally" it around too much, especially if it's stock. Plus you get a chance, you should do a compression test. There's 240's that last upwards of 300,000 miles if taken care of... But a 96 with 130k miles was most likely a lot of highway miles. For 3500$, I think that's a deal. You'll just have to decided if you can live with an automatic, or swap it out for like 600$.

I have a 96 SE with 127k miles on it. It has been well maintained and is running great. I can see it running well up to 200k and beyond.

Of course, with any used car, you will have problems, but the 240 is well built. The KA is very reliable.

In the 3 years I've owned mine (I got it at 86k miles) it hasn't given me many problems. The biggest thing was some sensors going out which cost a few hundred dollars to diagnose and fix.

130 isnt bad on a nissan, I have a 94 sentra with 207k and a 90 240 with 191 on the odom, but did a swap few weeks ago. Both cars had treated me very well.

As long as you keep it happy, it will last you. Keep your maintenance up to date and such.

If it passed a nissan inspection that at least means its up to par. Just dont beat on it all the time and it should last you a good 40-50k

Yea, I'm thinking I'm gonna buy it. It seemed like a great buy. The guy selling it doesnt want to sell it but he has to because hes getting shipped to Iraq. It has new interior, new belts, new power steering hose, new oil sender, new brakes 50 miles ago, new tires. I was looking for a stock 240 so I can modify myself. I can always do a swap down the road. I'll let you know what I decide. We've always had Nissans, they seem to last forever. We had a 1996 Nissian Altima that we sold when it still have 160,000 and we never had to do anything major to it, 97 Nissan Maxima (no problems), and a 98 Nissian maxima never any problems. This 240 seems to have been well matained.

go for it, if it drives nice and body is in good condition, that's a pretty good price! lasting does depend on how you drive it. i had an accord and put close to 100k miles on it and had no problems. my bro had it for a year and it's a piece of crap now because he beats on it all the time.

my 240 has 141k on it, i've had it for maybe 15k miles and only replaced the clutch.
