racecar?
racecar?
well as you guys know someone smashed my last s14 and now im lookin for another but now im considering making my next s14 a track car and buying a subaru wrx DD.
now im doing alot of stuff to my SR and i was thinking if im gona be racing this on the track and im gona be in a specific class because of the things ive done to my SR then i should upgrade my tranny. i looked around found a HKS for 10k and a OS Giken for 13k... a little too much but then i found a Nismo SR Tranny.
its a S15 6-speed tranny but completely rebuilt and reinforced by Nismo for about 4k im considering getting this. what do you guys think?

Well if you plan on being serious about the whole racing thing and actually being competitive then I suggest looking into what class you want to be in (should be narrowed severly by the things you already have, like SR, it's not a factory option for the 240sx so they would probably put you in a higher class). If you just start throwing stuff at your car and not checking the rule book for whatever organization you'll be driving in you will probably be thrown in a class where you wont be competitive at all. I believe it's NASA that has the unlimited class of road racing, I'm pretty sure that with the modifications you're planning you would be competing in something close to that. In a class like that unless you have money to throw away you probably wont be very competitive (assuming that you would even be a competitive driver), because people can go into that with 600 horsepower 350z's, lambhorgini's (sp), Ferrari, ZO6's, etc etc with complete one off suspension setups, track slicks, and who knows what else (alot of people but not me).
So I mean the tranny sounds cool and would probably be pretty bad *** in your car but I recommend looking at the rules for the organization you want to drive in (NASA, SCCA, or whatever else is out there) so you wont be like "wtf" when you get to the track and you see rediculous cars in your run group.

how much track experience do you have?
if it's not a lot then do this:
make sure the motor runs well
make sure the car stops well
make the sure the suspension well tuned.
then get at trailer and a tow vehicle
then go racing. replace parts that break, and then keep racing.
once you're happy with it, build an all out race car
or when you tired of shoveling $ at the car and having your life dominated by the car. stop.
ps. make sure you have fun and the car is fun to drive. uber horsepower cars aren't always fun to drive.
