rods or clutch?
its a ka24e w/184k
the engine makes the noise of a diesel engine. this is a new noise. it is some what of a clank. and as i go faster it clanks faster. kind of like a ball jumping around in a close can... i think its my clutch because the car still picks up nice. i recently herd a loud ping when i shifted hard into second.
what do you guys think.

So i just got off the phone with my friend mr. mechanic, and for the timing chain its ganna be around $700. thats a wats in my mind 'cause i can find a DE and swap it in for a lot less.
and i think 200 for clutch install is also a lot.. damn three piece drive shaft!!

OR fix ur chain. Its not that hard on the ka24e. A weekend of work, albeit, but not that hard. On the DE however... ugh, dont go there. And as far as "zomg i can swap a DE for less than fixing my motor!" been there, done that. If theres any lesson I've learned trying to get out the cheaper way its this... You never pay only the cost of the motor. You have other associated parts that must also be changed. THen you have all of your tuneup parts such as plugs and oil. Then you have the gaskets and such you must replace during the swap, and the cost of ther parts you want to change while youre able to get to them, I.E. Rear main, clutch, any freeze plugs that may be leaky.
The moral is, fix what you got, or be prepared to spend up to 3x what you expect to spend. Thats the cold truth.

Took me and a friend to pull the motor, leaving the tranny in place, in a matter of hours. I had all the emissions and what not and we ran into some problems with the mounts, resulting in the need to cut them... but now that its all simplified, maybe and hour and its out. The driveshaft is a ***** because the bolts are usually caked with **** and wont move without excessive force.
