Yo,
I have a 89 hatch.
I've been thinkin lately to swap out my sohc for a '95 or so ka24de. Would this be worth the money??
I don't have the dough for an sr($4000)
So maybe the '95 swap would be affordable.
Would anyone know where to get this swap done (i.e. shops) Am I right that this swap should cost bout a $1000 or so??
Thanks

yeap, do it yourself - that's about how much we spent ($400) including the KA24DE engine

DynoGarage in SanFrancisco CA can do a KA swap for a good price. If you need an engine, wiring harness, and ecu, nissan only wreckers in Ranco Cordova CA can get you an engine for a pretty good price, there website is www.ninfiniti.com .
If you want to go really cheap with your swap you can reuse your sohc ecu and wiring harness. If you install the KA sohc distributor onto the KA24de "only for 91-94model engines". You can't do it on 95-98 because there are additional sensors installed for OBD2 engines.

Thanks though.
I guess I'll call dyno garage some time.
Thanks for all the info.

i was going to get a ca but couldnt find the tranny anywhere and needed my car to ride. Happens that one of my guys in my group is a nissan freak like me and he had a 93 Ka24de for my 89fastback the swap took 4 hours and started on the first crank. I wanted the CA badly but after driving the car, I will now rebuild and boost the KA ( has and iron block just like the CA)

How reliable would you say an S13 would be in terms of use as a daily driver. I'm still a student right now, I'm considering getting my own car for use as a daily driver for school and work for a few years. I have a good understanding of car mechanics, but I wouldn't go so far as to perform anything more than basic maintenance on my own car. If I bought a relatively well maintained 89' 240, could I expect the car to last a few years without any wallet killing repair bills? Being a student I wouldn't have much dough for anything except general meintenance, and maybe the occational part that might need to be replaced...

hey yea man
if u drive daily change all fluids and other things, it will be good. When i bought my 89 it had 182,XXX on it when it blew it had 202,xxx miles on it and i drifted it hard man. I just changed teh oil like every 2 weeks. and just think if that was a daily driver i would still have the motor

i just put a KA in my car so ill be good for a while. untill i rebuild it

Back to S13 and S14's, either car can be made to go faster and handle better. I love the way the 97 and 98 S14's look. And I'd imagine they would be a bit more reliable since technology put in cars always improves over time. I don't know the details on Nissan's goals developing the S14 though. The only thing I've ever heard people honestly wish for in the 240SX is more horsepower out of the factory. This leaves it up to us it we really want it badly. I was wondering, if you put the best headers, exhaust and intake money could buy on an S14, how much of a power gain can you achieve. I mean without turboing anything or replacing any internal engine parts.)

about the same as if you put the best headers, exhaust, and intake money could buy on any other car powered by the KA24DE... you're not gaining anything. You're just freeing up what's there and getting the engine ready for higher numbers when you do serious engine work. I/H/E alone on a stock engine isn't really a power "adder".

I know someone's gonna ***** at this post
