Sell the '96 Alti and get a '93 240SX SE?

My girl has my old '96 Altima GXE 5SPD. The tranny is about gone and I need to spend about $300-600 on parts and $300 on the installation. A friend has a 240SX SE with a motor that was run without enough oil for a short period. It still runs and shows minimal sign of damage. Should I just repair the tranny in the Alti or would the engine damage caused by running without oil be cheaper to fix. The 240 is in really good shape minus some probs with the odometer, crack in the HUD windshield, and some minor surface rust in nickel to quarter sized patches.

Thanks for the help.

Are you sure those are the only problems with the 240sx? If there isnt anything majorily wrong with it, go for it.

Yea, just the little things. It doesn't even burn oil at this point. From the looks of it there is oil in the spark plug chamber which is where I am guessing he's loosing oil from. It seems to run smooth now, if the lifters are hydraulic than a lack of oil to move them may be the period of roughness he described.

Is a '93 240SX SE a better car that the '96 Alti?

^^I dont know a lot of info on Alti's, but from what I remember they are reliable cars. If you are willing to sacrifice the space(alti seats more)then go for the 240...if you need the space stay with the alti. just my 2 cents

Um, yea. Good point. My girl has been driving FWD cars for the past 5 years or so but was used to driving a T-Bird and '85 RX7 before that. She can handle it; besides the 240 comes with two big bags of salt for the trunk in the winter
