strange electrical problems!
I just bought a 93 240 and it got here the other day. I am very new to Nissan, and I have been having some strange problems. My brake lights are always on. even when the car is off, the brake lights are still on. To make them go out to save my battery I have to disconect a battery cable. I need to get this fixed and Im not sure where to start. Please let me know what could be going on here. Thanks! -Adam

I had this problem and it turned out that my brake pedal switch was gone. It's a little rubber stopper at the top of your brake pedal linkage and over time it gets hard, crumbles and falls off leaving your brake lights on constantly which of course drains your battery. http://www.nissanparts.cc/cart/?id=571&pn=46512h0101
It's a dime sized rubber stopper. To install it just squeeze it between a pair of needle nose pliers and it slides right into place at the top of your brake pedal linkage under the steering column. I spent like 20 minutes trying to place it with my fingers with no luck. I used the needle nose and it took like 10 seconds.

I'm looking at the service manual right now and I don't see what you are talking about. The thought of the stop lamp switch or the ASCD cancel switch going bad has intered my mind. but when i was on my floor trying to see up into the steering column i noticed something that looked like peices of a stopper on the foor. I am still not really seeing where the stopper goes though.

Put your hand on the brake pedal and move it up the metal part until you come to the top of it. At the top you will see a switch, there's another one on the clutch pedal too if you have manual transmission. Push in the brake pedal and use your fingers to feel where the contact area is between the switch and the metal part of the pedal and you'll probably feel a hole where your brake pedal switch once was. The stopper goes there to make contact with the switch when the pedal is at rest thus shutting off your brake lights.
