Sunroof replacement questions

So, a friend a mine just picked up a 240('93) for $200. One of the main problems is the sunroof. The previous owner was driving down the highway when his brother opened the sunroof, and it ripped off. Instead of replacing it they screwed another piece of metal into the roof, and then siliconed it in place(don't ask me why). I attached some pictures. Any of you guys have any idea where we should start? Have any of you done anything like this before? Any tips? Thanks for any info you can give. Sorry for the crappy pictures, I only had my iphone.

Is this normal, or has it been cut? It is right behind the sunroof frame.

And, yes, I know the car is rough, but it's going to be a fun project.

.... the integrity of the roof is surely damaged which can affect the cars overall chassis stiffness.. if it was me,,,, i would find a fresh sheet of metal... weld it on paint it and forget it.

check this out man, That is exactly what they did here, they cut it out nice and evenly and then welded a new piece of sheet metal in place, sanded, primer, paint, DONE!!!! And I'v seen the car in person. looks like it was suppose to be like that. No sagging or nothing. heres the link: https://www.s-chassis.com/forums/sho...t=44052&page=2

Ok, that sounds like a good idea. Wasn't really caring for a heavy sunroof anyways. About how much did that shop charge/was it hard to get the curve right yourself?
