All you have to do is remove the valve cover and then remove the top timing chain guide. It's very easy, I just don't have pics.

its not just a piece of cake. but if you have a pretty good idea of what your doing when in an engine bay period then your ok. if you can get a chiltons or a fsm that you can have by the car to help aid in frustrating situations that'd be best. you can get a downloadable fsm here http://www.zeroyon.com/index/content/view/24/47/

also keep a box or container of some kind for ALL of the numerous nuts and bolts! and try and remember where they go generally. and if you cant. number them some how or as my buddy just sugested just push the bolts through a piece of cardboard and label them lol works.
i would recomend getting an oilpan gasket and plan on changing your oil and filter. when your chain gets loose most times its not because the tensioner went out, its because the guide on the opposite side which is plastic has disintegrated into a ton of small sharp pebble rock size crap and sand and whatever else in your oil and oilpan so you've gotta drop the pan and dump that crap out and clean it out.
and while your at it since you've got to take off all the pullys if you havent changed any of the belts in awhile. you guessed it now'd be the best time to change them all aswell.
since you've gotta take the oilpan off and its easier to drop the pan by holding up the motor and lowering the crossmember now is also a good time to change shot motor mounts to some new ones so you lose less torque. i would recomend nismo motor mounts and tranny mount.

if your doing a single cam and you have any questions feel free to ask me and i'll help if i can.

I am referring to just removing the top guide, if thats all he is looking to do its very easy. If he's doing the whole chain than like you said, its more difficult.

you don't, you got to inspect it and look for scraping on your chain, guides and check if your tensioner is still tensioning! Look for contact on both chains, sometimes they scrape, I've seen this before! There's multiple guides for the chain, email me if you want the write up for the timing chain removal.

Post straight from the pages of chiltons

240SX and 1990-92 Stanza (KA24E Engine)

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Set the #1 piston at TDC of the compression stroke.
3. Remove the front cover.
4. If necessary, define the timing marks with chalk or paint to ensure proper alingnment.
5. Hold the camshaft sproket stationary with a spanner wrench or similar tool and remove the camshaft sproket bolt.
6. Remove chain tensioner.
7. Remove the chain guides.
8. Remove the timing chain.
9. Remove the sproket oil slinger, oil pump drive gear and crankshaft gear.

To Install:
10. Unstall the crankshaft sproket, oil pump drive gear and oil slinger onto the end of the crankshaft. Make sure the crankshaft sproket timing marks face toward the front.
11. Install the camshaft, bolt and washer. the alignmet marks must face toward the front. Tighten the bolt just enough to hold the sproket in place.
12. Verify that the #1 piston is at TDC of the compression stroke. The crankshaft key-ways should be at the 12 o'clock position.
13. Install the timing chain by aligning the marks on the chain with the marks on the sprokets. Torque the camshaft sproket bolt tp 87-116ft. lbs. once the timing chain is place and aligned.
14. Install the chain tensioner and chain guide.
15. Install the front cover.
16. Connect the negative battery cable.

if you need the dual i'll type that up also.
