water + engine

so ernesto came to my neck of the woods (or just a sick storm) and everything was flooded, including my route home. i ended up having to drive thru water that went up to my hood (people literally kyaking in the streets). anywho, the 240 went through 4 massive "lakes" in the street and seemed to be alright. but how can i be sure? is it as simple as if the car runs, you are fine? i also broke a piece of plastic underneath the front lip and dragged it home. any tips would be great.

ps...picture 2 civics, a cavalier, and a neon all on the side of the road stranded because of trying to get through the flood and watching me go by.

The only time you really need to worry is when a) you have a cold air intake, and you hydro lock, or if water comes up past the head of the motor. Other than that you should be fine.

as far as the exhaust, i always try to keep the engine constantly reving untill i exit the water. but the problem now is that after letting the car sit for two days, i have two new noises. the one noise sounds like a whine like the power steering on a ford or a ****ty supercharger, and the second noise is a horrible grinding noise. both of which increase in noise the higher the rpms rev. any ideas would be great guys, i have never had this problem before. im going to just not drive it for now and rock the s-10 with the blown head gasket.

ps... both of the noises are coming from somewhere in the engine bay.

these noises dont seem to be coming from the belts. seems to be coming from the engine itself.

get an air gun and start clearing it out, especially the front oil seal and clutch fan
