monroe is like 30-45 mins from tr (where i live). and yes ernesto is a son of a beech. i took the 240 to midas, and had them change the oil. i have no where to put the old oil, not that i can't do it. anyway, the guy asked me if i knew about the noise and i said, "Si, i can hear it." the mechanic said both noises are from the alternator. apparently it is comeing to the end of its usefulness. just thought you guys should be updated.

huh, interesting, I guess the alternator was the culprit the whole time.

(p.s. Darkvillin meet up one day)

actually i looked under the hood again, found the alternator, and the noise isnt coming from there at all. the alternator is on the passenger's side of the engine where as the noise derives more from the driver's side. its a really bad scrapeing, metal on metal kinda noise so im going to assume some kind of bearing has died.

maybe some bearing in ur power steering pump, take its belt off and see if the noise stops, maybe its dead.

it wont mess anything up, the waterpum and alternator are driven off other belts, those are the crutial things.

The noise was probably that watter got into one of ur bearing (the PS pump or alternator) along with debry like dirt and its grinding inisde the bearing. if the noise gets worse or changes with steering, then its the steerign pump, and the whinign noise is caused because the water made the belts corrode al litle bit more than usual, or the bearing is holding the belt making it squeal. It can come fro mthe alternator or PS or both, but the alternator will vary with electrical loads (try puttign ur a/c on high, turn on ur headlights, inside lights, crank ur stereo and acceleate see if it squeals).

Either way there's no repairing wither of them, unless u dedicate urself to atempting to disable a pump or alternator and lubricate a bearign that is gone allready. Alternator is more $$ than pump, pump is harder to find/ must order. Hopefully pump because u can drive without pump but not without alternator.

Thats one of the problems with drivign trough water. it hapened to me, and the plastic fender ALSO broke and I ALSO dragged it hometrough the interstate. When u put ur car in watter, lubricants go away, or get wherethey R not suposed to and od damage. the alternator not only its fragile, tis water RESISTANT not watter proof, and there's a posibility that it can short out while goign trough water, but the residue gets into the contacts and destroys it.

Good luck
