what kind of oil/oil filter do you use?

Bosch Filter - Royal Purple...

I'd say if you're going to throw the little extra money on anything in your car, be sure to get high grade oil/filters... it's the blood of the car. Why go cheap on [in my opinion] the most critical part of your car! - I say that because with proper cooling your engine will last a lot longer, and some of the cheaper oils leave deposits etc.

like someone said earlier, is it worth it to switch to say mobile 1 synthetic if you ka has lots of mileage? and is it better to run thinner or thicker oil on an older engine?

If you have been using regular oil for the life of your car, itd be a good bet to keep on using regular oil. Gaskets and seals well swell a certain way due to the impurities of regular oil, and putting in synthetic in an old car can cause these seals to change and leak oil.
So it would probably be your best bet to use a decent conventional oil such as castrol gtx or pennzoil. I would stay away from cheap oils suxh as wal-mart brand, due to them not being refined as well as better oils.
