Forgive me for dredging up what seems like a forgotten topic, but I just had to chime in after reading the (91-94) FSM:
"Use unleaded premium gasoline with an octane rating of at least 91 AKI (Anti-Knock Index) number (research octane number 96).
If unleaded premium gasoline is not available, unleaded regular gasoline with an octane rating of at least 87 AKI (research octane number 91) can be used."

Correct me if I'm wrong, but PON (which is used at US gas stations) is equal to AKI, so Nissan does indeed recommend an octane rating of 91. Much as I value John Haynes' contributions to the world of automotive repair, I think I'd rather take Nissan's word over his .

In cali it is 89 octane........Cars run on the fuel just fine out here.
Not to make this a debate, I guess the state of California is an OXIMORON.
When you look at repair manuals for smog equipment they show how most smog parts comply with the state of "California", again the politics suck here I guess California is once again the OXIMORON.

Just to make it clear I "seriously" fubared the recomended octane is 91octane. When the 240sx came out in production Cali use to sell 91 octane as premium also. Yes I am a jack *** sometimes, so feel free to rip me a new *** hole.....
Wikd also stated as long as you arent getting knock and ping run it on lower fuels and save some scratch. I think I'll stick with my 89 octane, just cause

That is what I am saying. I researched the 90pistons with a .040 bore/@90mm instead of 89mm. It would bump the 91-94 KA compression chamber 10.7:1. I was told to run 91Octane Supreme. Honda S2000 runs a compression of 11.1:3 and runs on 91 octane out here in Cali.
So I guess 89 octane fuel is fine for a 91-94ka engine with a compression of 8.5

I run 93 octane here, because when i use any less it pings like nothing youve ever seen... must be the humidity... and another thing. My dad told me once that if i was really into putting stuff into the car to flush out the engine during an oil change not to use that crap, but use diesel fuel. He uses it in his truck after draining half the oil, and adds enough diesel to fill it back up, runs it for 5 minutes at idle, and drains it and goes about refilling with oil. His truck has over 300k miles on it... i belive in that...but too risky for me to try myself, it IS a truck of course

Diesel is good, but auto trans fluid is even better. Diesel is a good solvent, but auto trans fluid is like 99 percent detergents. Make sure you drain and put in good oil afterwards!
