Best Stock turbos for a Ka- T build

Hey guys

I know some guys use t25 from a sr or a t28 from a sr turbo to use for their ka-t build. Or they go bigger and get an aftermarket turbo.. I was just curious if there are other stock turbos out their that can serve the same purpose for a cheaper price... One example i got a turbo for free from a friend.. it came off of a 2.2 liter chrylser engine.. Its a mitsubishi TE04H turbo.. Not sure if they are any good?? i know t25 and t28 are garrett turbos which is a very good brand but i wasn't sure on the mits.. I did find that i can get a rebuild kit for $81.00.... so i just need to know if a free turbo + 81.00 rebuild kit + fabing an exhaust to work on KA = a good way or cheaper way to go??
Thanks for any input guys

Eric

one of the twin turbos from the RB26 is good to use. It is a ball bearing T28.

yes you can relatively speaking. what you don't want is a turbo that is too small for the engines displacement or one that is too big. also "best" is a matter of opinion based on desired performance goals. depending on when and where you want to boost to kick in and be sustained will determine what it best for each application. there's quite a bit more to it but in a nut shell that about sums it up.

Yeah i wish it was a ball bearing turbo but i don't believe it is... but this turbo is somewhat small and was orginally on a 2.2 liter so putting it on a 2.4 might choke it out a little but it will spool up quick.... and i was also wondering if anyone knew what kind of manifold this turbo will fit on and also fit on my ka cause i think its considered a T2 size turbo but not 100% sure.... and to respond to jr yeah i know i will want a bigger turbo later on for boost in the higher rpms but this turbo is free so i can't turn it down so i'm gonna make it work....

Well you will be boosting full at low RPMs and you will still feel a good ammount of power at high RPMs. Not sure what flange your turbo is. Do some research online to find out.

I reccomend searching for the compressor map of the turbo and the do the math listed on Garett's turbo site to make sure its sized right for you. I'm in the process of building a KAT myself and will be starting on the turbo portion soon. If you want I'll keep you in the loop on my sizeing work. I'm planning on 250whp+ and want it to spool up around 3k or so since I do alot of commuting and don't want to be at full boost on the highway.

What do you mean full boost on the highway? My car isnt in boost unless I get on it. When I cruise, the car is always in vacuum.

I know some badly sized turbo systems that have you in boost at like 2k rpm.....home brew kits for "quick spooling"....

you never go into full boost unless you are actually on the throttle more than like ~70%
