future plans for DET
Alright guys. I have a couple questions. Let me begin by explaining. I currently own the 89 sohc. I want to do a de swap and then go turbo. I found a friend of mine that has everything needed for a de swap for 200 dollars. I was then going to rebuild inside out and turbo. Do u think this is all a good idea or do i need to go another way? Also is $200 a good deal on everything needed for a de swap? Thanks again.

just gather reasearch from this form and others, it will be an decision you have to make for your self... i dont push KA-t on anyone, but it works for me and i can have a way sicker build for the money.....
for example and RB20 cost about 1200 dollars now, you can fully build an KA for about 1300 to 1400 dollar............. if you are installing it your self.
just get an compression check bro... im about to get another KA for 350 with perfect compression.

you are right. But i heard that the rb20 is really hard to find parts for and expensive. I know i could easily find parts for the ka-t. I also dont want to be a bandwagon jumper. I want something unique.

well i dont want to play devils advocate here but actually most rb20's i have seen were way more reliable than ka's but it's all in the tuning and quality of parts you choose. i know someone who has logged 50k on a stock rb20 swap with no mechanical faliure of any kind. $200 is a good deal with ecu and tranny and all that, and rebuild should cost around $1200 with new pistons, rings, oil seals, headgasket, and main bearings.

thanks for all the advice guys. Im just ready for him to get the motor out of his other car so i can begin the build. I am so ready to build the KA-T. I live in Wilson, N.C. and there are a few SRs in the area because of jk motorsports in greenville but there are no KA-Ts. I want to be the only one. I have alot of plans for the body after the ka-t work too. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

cool and for the record... i dont push KA-t on anyone lol silviak. i love that attitude man.. becuase you understand the difference between the motors in stock form for the long run... however, the issue that lots of swapers face is.. they are very naive and think that the motor that they have has not been beat on in japan already lol....

future
im looking at getting close to 400 rwhp. I want it to be one of the sickest DDs around my city. I want to do it completely right though. I am going to start with the footwork. Suspension, brakes, etc. I dont care how fast your motor is if your car cant handle it it doesnt help you at all. My first investment will probably be either a nice set of coilovers or just a good set of shocks and springs.
