1995 Gas in Oil..Help

I bought a '95 240 about a month ago. I changed the oil about 3 weeks ago and today when I checked it not only did it rise about 3/4" past the high mark but it also has the smell of gas. Both after the oil change and today the car had been sitting overnight when I checked it. And it does not seem to be running rich. I checked the spark plugs and the tips look good (no wet fuel on them except on the threads). I got a scan tool and checked the codes and P0325 (Knock Sensor) showed up. I don't know if this could contribute to the gas or not. Where should I start with the diagnosing of the gas in the oil? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Knock sensor means the Ignition timing is off.

or...l.. I would geuss either a bad head gasket, faulty injector or a bad fuel pressure regulator.

EDIT : Also, if you have the tools, do a Compression test.

could be bad rings as my first guess, since that's where gas and oil can get together if the seal is bad

I was worried it might be the rings but thought if the rings were shot that oil would get into the gas and cause blue exhaust smoke (which I don't have). If it is the rings about how much do you think it would cost to fix the problem?

A full rebuild kit is about 400-500. OEM rings aren't that expensive but if you don't know how to do the job yourself then the $$$ part will be on labor.
